Services for Mary Jelena Austin will be held at Pisgah Community Church, this Saturday, May 30, 2026. Visitation will be 1-2 PM with the service to begin at 2 PM.

Mary Jelena Austin born on July 28, 1940, passed away March 21, 2026.
A woman of boundless energy, infectious laughter, and a fierce love for her family. She was known as Jelena, and lived a life defined by her zest for life and her unwavering quote that she was always right on any topic because she was “the momma”. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Throughout her life, Mary Jelena Austin was fortunate to share her journey with three loving husbands, all of whom preceded her in death. Yet her greatest pride was always her family.
Jelena spent most of her life in Pisgah where she was known for her green thumb. She spent countless hours in her yard to create beauty enjoyed by her and her neighbors. She loved her neighbors and church family and often spoke to many on a weekly basis after her move to Oxford. The highlight of her week was when she would receive a card from her Sunday School class, at home in Oxford.
A faithful member of Pisgah Community Church and a good neighbor to all, her kindness extended to all animals. She always had an animal or two as companions.
Above all, Jelena loved to dance. A love that started in her youth. Whether in her kitchen, with her children, or among friends. Her joy was infectious, and her family takes great comfort in knowing she is now dancing around the throne of her Savior.
Jelena is survived by her son, Hollis Green of Oxford, her daughter Myra Grissinger (Earl) of Oxford. Ten grandchildren- April Rinehart (Jeff) of Booneville, Lindsey Gresham (John) of Jackson, Holly Tubbs (Colton) of Oxford, Meg Linder (Andy) of Batesville, Ashton Wren of Rienzi, and Seven great-grandchildren Mary Hollis Gresham, John Gresgam, Pate Gresham, Seth Floyd, Hadley Rinehart, Lilly Linder and Drew Linder. She leaves behind many nieces and extended family members, all of whom will cherish her memory.
She is preceded in death by her loving daughter Vickie Pate Kennedy, Sister Dorthy Baggett, Brother Bob Wren, Husbands Jerry Lancaster, Gaylon Green and Joe Austin.

Acts 2:1-13 (NIV) - 1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

Luke 24:50-53 (NIV) - 50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

Acts 1:1-11 (NIV) - 1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Scripture - Luke 8:1-3 NRSV): 1 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.

Acts 2:42-47 (NIV) - 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
