THE DANGER OF A DOUBLE LIFE
1 Samuel 27:10–11
“And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites. And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.”
David told one story but lived another. To Achish he looked loyal, but in truth he was covering his tracks. That is the very picture of a double life.
Many Christians fall into the same trap today. Clean on the outside, hidden on the inside. For a while, it works. But sooner or later, Ziklag burns.
A man who prays in public but secretly feeds on sin at night.
A woman who testifies in church but gossips behind closed doors.
A teenager who sings in the choir but curses with friends at school.
A husband who looks faithful at home but lives otherwise in secret.
A worker who carries a Bible on Sunday but cheats on the job.
A believer who posts verses online but has another hidden account for the world.
A preacher who preaches holiness but lives carelessly when nobody sees.
A double life always ends in destruction. You cannot live one way before men and another way before God. The fire will fall, and what is hidden will be revealed.
Sooner or later, Ziklag burns.
