Today, as we observe Juneteenth, we remember an important part of American history.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved African Americans were free. While the Emancipation Proclamation had declared freedom for enslaved people in the Confederate states, many did not learn of their freedom until Union forces arrived to enforce it. Juneteenth is widely commemorated as the day freedom was proclaimed in Texas and symbolizes the fulfillment of emancipation for many formerly enslaved African Americans.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is precious and that every person is created with dignity and worth. It is an opportunity to reflect on our history, celebrate progress, and commit ourselves to loving our neighbors well.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of freedom and for the courage of those who endured hardship while holding onto hope. As we remember the significance of Juneteenth, help us learn from the past, celebrate the progress that has been made, and continue working toward a future marked by justice, unity, and compassion.

Teach us to see one another through Your eyes, to value every life, and to be peacemakers in our communities. May we honor those who came before us by living with gratitude, integrity, and love.

Heavenly Father,

Today we pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We thank You for their courage, sacrifice, and willingness to protect others at great cost. Comfort the families who carry the weight of loss, and surround them with Your peace and strength.

Help us never to take freedom for granted. Teach us to live with gratitude, compassion, and humility, honoring the legacy of those who served by the way we love and care for one another.

We also pray for those currently serving in the military, for veterans, and for first responders. Protect them, guide them, and remind them that their service matters.

Lord, in a world that often feels divided, make us people who pursue peace, justice, and unity. May this Memorial Day be more than a long weekend, may it be a sacred reminder of sacrifice, remembrance, and hope.

Holy Saturday

The cross is behind us.
The tomb is sealed.
And heaven is quiet.

Today is a day of waiting.

The disciples didn’t yet understand what was coming. Hope felt lost. The promise seemed buried.

And yet… God was still working.

Even in the silence.
Even in the stillness.
Even when it seemed like nothing was happening.

Holy Saturday reminds us that just because we can’t see it, doesn’t mean God isn’t moving.

So today, we wait.
We trust.
We hold onto hope.

Because the story isn’t over.

Good Friday

Today is not just a day of sorrow, it is a day of awe and revelation.

We stand at the foot of the cross and remember what it cost.

The innocent for the guilty.
The righteous for the sinner.
The Savior for the world.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
- Romans 5:8

Jesus didn’t go to the cross by accident. He chose it. Out of love. Out of obedience. Out of a desire to bring us back to the Father.

Every nail.
Every wound.
Every moment of suffering… was endured with you in mind.

So today, we don’t rush past this moment.
We sit in it. We reflect. We give thanks.

Because the cross wasn’t just something that happened—it changed everything.
