The way we obey or disobey the 5th commandment has far reaching implications for the rest of our lives. Join us as we discover some of these implications this Sunday.

We had such a helpful discussion in Sunday school about chapter 16 paragraphs 5-7 of our Confession of Faith this morning. Praise God for our salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone to the glory of God alone. Thank God for the gift of the Spirit that then enables us to begin striving to live for our Savior.

We cannot by our best works merit pardon of sin or eternal life at the hand of God, by reason of the great disproportion that is between them and the glory to come, and the infinite distance that is between us and God, whom by them we can neither profit nor satisfy for the debt of our former sins;14 but when we have done all we can, we have done but our duty, and are unprofitable servants; and because they are good they proceed from his Spirit,15 and as they are wrought by us they are defiled and mixed with so much weakness and imperfection, that they cannot endure the severity of God’s punishment.16

15 Gal. 5:22–23

Friends, tomorrow is the Lord's day and here are some good ways to prepare for that now. Pray for your pastor and his preparations to be made and established by the Lord. Pray that the Lord would prepare the minds and hearts of the congregation. Finally, get your stuff in order tonight, get to bed at a decent hour, and read the text that will be preached or taught in the morning.
