Charles Brown Bolding of Randolph, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, with his children by his side.
Born on July 8, 1935, to Brown L. and Ruie C. Bolding, Brown was raised with the values of faith, hard work, and service that would define his life. His parents, sister and brother-in-law, Ramona and Tommy Thompson, preceded him in death, as did the love of his life, Emma Elizabeth “Beth” Bolding.
He is survived by his children, Kevin (Dana) Bolding of Randolph, Kelli (Mike) Shofner of Vestavia, and Monica (Rob) Wimberly of Randolph; his grandchildren, Aniston (Jace) Airehart of Lubbock, Texas, Emma (Ben) Porter of Auburn, Caleb Shofner of Auburn, Alexis Bolding of Auburn, and Charley Wimberly of Randolph; and his great-grandchildren, Beau and Shep Porter. He is also survived by wife Laura Bolding.
Brown was a faithful member of Randolph Baptist Church, serving his church family as a deacon, Young Adult, and Adult Men’s Sunday School teacher for many years beginning in 1973. He was a pillar of Bibb County, especially the Randolph community and held a position on the Randolph Water Board until recently. He was an honorary board member of the Bibb County Farmers Federation, member of the Bibb County Cattlemen’s Association and the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association.
After graduating from Maplesville High School in 1953, Brown continued his education at Livingston University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education with a minor in Biology in 1958. During his time there, he was a member of the baseball team. He later earned his Masters and AA Degrees from the University of Montevallo. He began his teaching career at Bibb County Junior High School which is also where he met Beth and married her shortly after. Brown dedicated 36 years to the Bibb County School System as a teacher, coach, child nutrition and textbook supervisor, and lastly serving as Superintendent of Education.
He enjoyed life's simple pleasures: sharing lunch with friends at the Maplesville Florist and Bake Shop, gathering with former superintendents, participating in church activities, riding cutting horses, and caring for his cattle, which kept him busy well into his later years.
Brown will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his commitment to education, his love for family and community, and the countless lives he influenced throughout the years. His legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, the students he mentored, and the community he helped shape. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Randolph Baptist Church, Randolph, AL with Brother Tony Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Randolph Baptist Church Cemetery with Rocko Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-12, prior to the funeral service at 12.
Pallbearers will be Jace Airehart, Jonathan Mathis, Norman Payne, Bobby Tillery, Cody Thompson, and Luke Thompson.
Honorary Pallbearers include the staff of Bibb Medical Center, Bibb Medical Center Nursing Home, and ACG Hospice of Tuscaloosa where he was lovingly cared for with compassion during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Randolph Baptist Church Men’s Brotherhood Ministry.
