Curious about the Catholic Faith?

Do you feel the Lord calling you to a deeper relationship with Him? Do you feel unfulfilled with what the world has to offer? Do you want to join a family of faith that has billions of members throughout 2,000 years of history? Do you hear the Lord inviting you to become Catholic?

You're warmly invited to begin the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), a journey of reflection and discovery. We will walk alongside you as you discern and pray about joining our Catholic family. We start with a welcome gathering in October, then meet twice each month through Easter, learning about the Catholic faith and growing in relationship with Christ.

OCIA is for you if...
- you've never been baptized
- you're a baptized Christian from another tradition wanting to enter full communion with the Catholic Church
- you're a baptized Catholic who hasn't yet completed Confirmation or First Communion

Explore with fellow seekers what Catholicism uniquely offers, while honoring the beauty of the faith traditions that led you to this point in your spiritual journey. All are welcome.

Start with any of these steps:
- Chat with Fr. Ryan (schedule at stkdcc.org/next)
- Need some answers about Catholicism first? Join "Grill the Priest" on Friday Sept. 25th at 6:00 pm.
- Meet the teaching team at a casual welcome reception on Wednesday, October 7th at 6:00 pm.

Join the Bethany Team!
by Fr. Ryan Glaser

Bethany was a special place for Jesus and His disciples. They went there for fellowship, rest, and prayer in the midst of their busy ministry, cared for by Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, who demonstrate true Christian hospitality. Following their example and through their intercession, we have created the Bethany Team!

The idea of the Bethany Team is to "baptize" and "evangelize" what it means to be a volunteer at SKD. We are called not just to busy work or a false sense of activism, but to be mindful of the need for fellowship and prayer as well. To enhance the volunteer experience and encourage new disciples to serve our parish, I ask you to consider joining the Bethany Team.

This group will receive event-specific requests that include particular tasks and time commitments. That way, you can best discern how the Lord is calling you to service!

We must always keep our Christian vision in mind as we serve. Bethany Team volunteers will begin and end their labor at events in brief moments of prayer with one another, interceding for all participants and asking the Lord to guide their work. We ourselves are called to deeper discipleship as we serve.

I pray you will consider joining our team and welcoming our brothers and sisters to experience our parish!

-Fr. Ryan

The Assumption

Question:
What lessons should I learn from the Assumption of Mary?

Answer:
Growing in holiness is similar to training in a sport. We need someone to show us how we can live our faith well. Mary is a model of sanctity. She shows us how to be faithful to God’s will, living each day with confidence in God’s mercy and love. At the Nativity, in Jesus’ public ministry, and at the Crucifixion, we see her steadfast trust. She allows the Lord to use her life to accomplish his plan for her and for all of us. In the Preface of the Mass for the Assumption of Mary, we pray: “For today the Virgin Mother of God was assumed into heaven as the beginning and image of your Church’s coming to perfection and a sign of sure hope and comfort to your pilgrim people.”

It is this image of holiness that we strive to imitate. In the office, at home, or in our community, we look for signs of God’s grace that call us to an ever greater love of him and each other. A greater awareness of God is a sign of our conversion of heart that lives the lessons Mary teaches.
