First Teen Camp Out at Deacon John's property this past weekend was a success! They had camp fires, stories, and the opportunity to learn outdoor basic survival skills. The four main learning opportunities: outdoor fire starting, setting up camp site and shelter, outdoor cooking, and orienteering. Thank you to all our chaperones and volunteers who made this event a memorable one!

The last part of an Orthodox wedding is the Ceremonial Walk. We also call this portion of the service the “Dance of Isaiah“. The couple – with hands tied – follow the priest around a small table three times. The witnesses follow with candles in hand. The circular path they follow symbolizes eternity – beginning without end. It is the couple’s first walk together, reminding them of their sacrificial love for each other and the pledge they have just made to walk together as long as they live.

Eden's Keepers Ministry Highlight!

Often unseen, many volunteers from our community serve the Church through their hard work and toil to make our sacred grounds beautiful and well maintained. This summer and fall were no exception! In addition to our regular maintenance, volunteers helped to build a pathway in Father David's backyard, and helped repair the roof above the parish hall. Glory to God for the many ways the faithful serve our parish!

Saint John the Merciful Highlight for September!

During the month of September, Saint John the Merciful had a variety of volunteering and giving opportunities to participate in! We partnered with Lutheran Services Carolinas’ New Americans Program by providing household cleaning supplies to support refugees as they enter into permanent housing upon arrival in the United States. Each supplies kit will include the following:

Swiffer-style mop
Cleaning gloves
Dish soap
Bathroom/kitchen spray cleaner
Paper towels
Laundry detergent
Broom and dustpan
Sponges
Kitchen towels

On Sunday, September 13th at 1:00pm in the Parish Hall Kitchen, SJTM cooked food for the Women’s Center in the parish hall kitchen. This important ministry provides meals for 15 recuperative respite women which are then delivered to the center. (Not pictured)

Our teens helped serve at the local food bank packing over 2,000 meals! (Pictured)

And we had ongoing opportunities to serve at our men's shelter!

Thank you for all you do to help serve those in need! Be on the lookout for more ways to serve those in need in October!
