Racine Dominicans

Racine Dominicans Committed to Truth, Compelled to Justice Since 1862, the Racine Dominicans are a community of vowed women religious - sisters and lay associates.

They are headquartered in Racine, Wisconsin – a city on the shores of Lake Michigan south of Milwaukee. ‘Committed to truth, compelled to justice’ is the guiding principle for the Racine Dominicans including all ministries for individual sisters and community sponsored ministries. Sisters and Associates serve throughout the Americas in a wide range of vocations. Prayer, study and preaching are int

egral to the lives of all Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates. Through the years, the Sisters have founded and sponsored dozens of ministries, filling a variety of needs in the Wisconsin community and beyond. Many of the ministries were designed to become self-sufficient and passed on to be ministered by the lay community. Others ended as needs changed or objectives were achieved. Today, the Racine Dominicans (with a corporate title of Sisters of St. Dominic) is a 501(c)(3) organization with five sponsored ministries that are 501(c)(3) corporations. The sponsored ministries are blessed with the assistance of thousands of professionals, volunteers and donors (individual and corporate), religious and lay people whose missions align with the Racine Dominicans. The current sponsored ministries are:

Bethany Apartments
Senior Companion Program
Siena Retreat Center
HOPES Center
Eco-Justice Center

Donations to the Racine Dominicans or any of the sponsored ministries are tax deductible.

What a wonderful groundbreaking! Our own S. Maryann McMahon and S. Agnes Johnson were honored to be a part of the ceremony. We can't wait to see it completed in August. Blessings on another chapter in the story of Racine St. Catherine's!

We have been celebrating Laudato Si’ Week, sharing information on how we’re bringing Laudato Si’ to life in how we live and work. It’s important for all of us to understand the interconnectedness and interdependence of people and our planet. Can we each commit to do one small thing for our planet today as a reminder that together we can heal our common home?

Please pray this final prayer with us, and make plans in your own home to live a more sustainable life that supports the care of our beautiful planet!

Today for Laudato Si’ Week we are talking about composting.

Food waste accounts for millions of pounds of material that goes into landfills every year, so we compost! Siena composts our food waste with the help of Compost Crusaders and we worked with community partners to help organize composting projects in Racine so that our neighbors and friends can compost their food waste as well. For more information on the Racine Composting Project, go to https://accounts.compostcrusader.com/forms/Racine-Drop-Off/

Pray with us – Creator God, bless this small work of composting, the turning of scraps into soil, waste into nourishment, ending into new life. Teach us to care for the Earth with gratitude and humility, remembering that all creation is connected. May the work of our hands help gardens grow, protect the land and honor the gift of creation. Amen.

It’s Laudato Si’ Week and today we are talking about the care of the land.

We are blessed to be the stewards of the land here at Siena and it is a sacred responsibility to take care of it. We have many projects happening lately around campus to help us care for the land, including removal of invasive species with our friends at Great Lakes Community Conservation Corps and doing a controlled burn of the prairie. We are now getting ready to plant more native species. We care deeply for this land.

Pray with us – God, help us to care for the Earth with gratitude and respect. Teach us to protect the beauty of creation, use its gifts wisely and leave a healthier world for future generations. Amen.

Happy Laudato Si’ Week 2026!

Laudato Si’ is the late Pope Francis’ call to the world to care for planet Earth. The goal is to foster a deeper respect for creation, promote sustainable habits and deepen our commitment to a lifestyle that respects the Creator's handiwork. We will be sharing prayers and examples of how our Racine Dominican community is working to help heal our planet throughout the week.

We hope you will join us this week to pray and act on behalf of our beautiful planet!

Happy Founder's Day! On this day in 1862, Mother Benedicta Bauer began the Racine Dominican order to teach German immigrant children who needed access to education. More than 160 years later, the Racine Dominicans continue their work of being Committed to Truth and Compelled to Justice.

We are so proud of the legacy our Sisters have built and the impact they have had on so many of us, here in Racine and beyond. In honor of Founder's Day, will you do one small act of kindness for someone?

One year ago today was the election of Pope Leo. Blessings as he continues to share the gospel message of caring for God's people, welcoming all to the table and living a life rooted in justice and faith.

Today, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious joins with others around the world in recognizing the first anniversary of the election of Pope Leo.

We give thanks for his compassionate leadership, his deeply pastoral approach, and his courageous public witness to the values at the heart of Catholic Social Teaching. Throughout this first year, Pope Leo has consistently called the church and the world to greater solidarity with those who are poor and marginalized, renewed care for our common home, and a deeper commitment to human dignity, peace, and justice.

We are grateful for the hope his ministry has inspired and for the ways he continues to invite all people into dialogue, encounter, and faithful action for the good of our global community.

May wisdom, courage, and compassion continue to guide him in the years ahead.
