ONE Sunday service at 9:30am

Second Sunday after Pentecost

It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
(Matthew 9:12,13)

The Season after Pentecost features what Christ teaches, and Christians in every vocation are
encouraged to say it out loud. The truths of God’s Word are good for the soul, useful for life, and more reliable than anything else in the world. Watch out for false teachers who come with wise sounding words and pious promises, but who do not base everything on the Word of God! Give thanks to the Lord for faithful servants in the ministry of the gospel and those who support them! This week we say out loud: God loves sinners!

Holy Trinity

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory. (Isaiah 6:3)

Day of Pentecost

Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful people,
and kindle in them the fire of your love.

When the disciples were distressed about Jesus ascending into heaven, he assured them, “It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you” (John 16:7). That Advocate is the Holy Spirit. If Jesus had stayed in the grave, the Holy Spirit would have had no reason to enter the lives of disciples. But Jesus lives, and it makes a difference. The Spirit provides faith and purpose for life. Pentecost, the celebration of the special arrival of the Holy Spirit, is the third great festival of the Church, along with the Nativity and the Resurrection. Pentecost closes the fifty-day period after Easter and ends the festival half of the church year. The Church dresses in red on this day to commemorate the tongues of fire that marked the Spirit’s gift as well as the blood of the martyrs. On Pentecost we will see that He lives to pour out His Spirit.

Sign Up for Everyone Outreach Follow-up!
Our "Everyone Outreach" event on April 18 was only the beginning! We'll be taking another step, on Saturday, June 6, from 9-11:00am in the Good Shepherd Room, in our journey of discovering how to better reach out to those who need Jesus.

You can sign up on the south bulletin board, outside the office, or on the Flocknote messages that will be sent. Then, as you attend worship services here on the Sundays between now and then, we ask that you put on your "First-time visitor eyes" to see what things you experience might be a barrier to someone who is not used to what we take for granted here.

Then, on June 6, we'll put together our observations and insights to brainstorm how we can better give our guests a feeling of belonging when they worship with us. As with the initial workshop, childcare will be available. Whether you attended our past workshop or not, join us for a fun, enlightening day of discovery!

Thanks!
Jeff Baas

Last Sunday, we were blessed to celebrate the confirmation of these young people in their Christian faith: Thomas Aegler, Nolan Baumgart, Emily Curcio, Beckett Hahm, Amalia Heusterberg, Cole Jackson, Harper Krohn, and Ky’Ann Morris.

During the service, they publicly confessed their faith and received the Lord’s Supper for the first time. As a congregation, we thank God for the faith He has worked in their hearts and pray that He continues to strengthen them through His Word and Sacraments.
