Harrisena Live “The lost are found. The dead return to life. John 3:16 NIV

LEARNING TO LOVE LIKE JESUS!

This is the Lord’s doing; it is wondrous in our sight.”

We are a non-denominational church created over 150 years ago to give local residents and visitors to our area a place to worship God together. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Ash Wednesday is a time to begin a rich journey. Beginning this journey is a frank recognition that we are mortal people who have sinned against God and our neighbor. Ash Wednesday offers the invitation to draw close to the Spirit and to be changed during the forty days of Lent. As a sculptor uses negative space to help us see beautiful forms, Lent is a time to subtract so that God may add God’s own wisdom to our outlook. Joel calls us to decrease so God may increase.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, walked with God in the most unique way. Mary was a young woman chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus the Christ, the Messiah. God chose Mary out of all the women in her generation.

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1: 26-35 NIV)

Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]. 2 For by this [kind of] faith the people of old gained [divine] approval. (Hebrews 11:1-2 AMP)

This month, our congregation is meditating Mary's experience with God:

Mary became pregnant with Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. It was the Holy Spirit, the power of God that overshadowed her. Mary carried the Messiah, the baby Jesus, inside of her, in her womb, a womb made of flesh and blood. This was a time of the miraculous, the uncommon, the impossible becoming possible. This was God’s doing and Mary, a woman of faith, obedience, humility, and a fear of The Lord, would be a part of it all. She was filled with humility and courage, meekness and strength. Mary had faith in God. She had faith in God’s promises and faith in God’s power to bring those promises to fulfillment. It took faith, a great deal of faith, for Mary to accept what the angel told her. It took faith to accept the extraordinary will of God in what seemed to be an ordinary life. It took faith to overshadow the fear and uncertainty of not knowing to bring forth a response of trust in the faithfulness of the All-Knowing God. Mary said, “I am The Lord’s servant, may your word to me be fulfilled.” It took faith!

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Hello to all those who love Jesus and take joy in worshipping God through Christ,

We are a small church in northern New York with an older congregation. Since the covid 19 pandemic, we live stream our weekly services so our homebound and hospitalized members of our congregation could continue to worship with us and hear God's word. For years we used our page as our streaming platform. We also use this platform to promote our fundraising and mission projects, often paying for the boosting advertising service offered through Facebook.

Facebook recently added new requirements for users to live stream using their platform, specifically a minimum number of followers. We do not meet this requirement, so we can no longer stream using Facebook. While we are still streaming using other platforms, our congregation, slow to adopt change, would prefer to continue to use our page to join in our worship.

God, through Christ teaches us to ask and we will receive. So we are asking for help from our community. Please follow our page so we can meet these new requirements, and restore this important tool we need for sharing our services and spreading the Word of God

Thank you for your help and may God be with you always.

The Harrisena Congregation.
