The Church of the Messiah Sacred Sites Open House on May 16 & 17 was a wonderful experience! Visitors and Congregants (65+ people) gained insight into the historical significance of this remarkable New York State & Federally recognized landmark. Our choir performance was well received (with a standing ovation at the end). What a blessing it is to be a part of this community!

DID YOU KNOW? There are four types of stained glass Church of the Messiah. The oldest is at the entrance (as mentioned in previous post).

The second type is the German Dresden school of glass which are pictures painted on glass. (These are found on either side of the altar as well as the three windows in the center of the nave on the north side of the church).

The third type Tiffany school of glass making and is seen in the window in the north vestibule and the window the beautiful window over the altar.

The four style are the 1950's contemporary and made with genuine stained glass. These windows were designed and installed by Robert Lewis of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Authorities in stained glass consider our windows to be some of the finest in the United States. *Note: The church has 14 windows by Mr. Lewis; some of which can be found the the book, "Stained Glass" by Robert Sowers.

DID YOU KNOW? Outside of Church of the Messiah between the doors is a sculptured bas relief of a scene from the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus sitting on a hillside with St. Peter and St. John who are listening to his words, "Blessed Are The Peacemakers" (which is inscribed beneath the relief). This beautiful gift was sculptured by John Galucci of Glens Falls. It was formed in clay, molded and then cast in white marble dust and cement and was given in memory of George and Mae Dolan by their daughters, Donna and Rose Marie Dolan. It was blessed and dedicated on during the Thanksgiving service on November 21, 1962.
