The Muslim Life Program is dedicated to building a vibrant and pluralistic community on Princeton Uni

The Muslim Life Program in the Office of Religious Life is directed by Imam Khalil Abdullah. Khalil works closely with students on campus to support their diverse cultural and spiritual identities while helping to strengthen their religious literacy and mutual respect for others. In addition, Khalil offers pastoral care to students and regularly hosts campus dialogues on various topics related to faith, identity, and meaning.

In 1975, the late Muslim American leader, Imam W. Deen Mohammed, renamed his community’s national network of schools in honor of his mother, Sister Clara Muhammad (1899-1972).

Join us for a screening of “Clara’s Fruit,” a short documentary film that honors the legacy of Sister Clara, who during the 1930s Jim Crow era, founded the first private Muslim school system in the United States.

Talk by multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker, Aïdah Aliyah Rasheed, followed by a panel discussion.

We had the honor of hosting Walid Iqbal, grandson of the famous Urdu poet Muhammad Allama Iqbal, who gave an incredible first hand account of knowing his grandfather. He spoke on the core philosophical concept Iqbal taught, the concept of Khudi, or self-actualization in the framework of being a servant of God and anti-colonialism.
“Khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqdeer se pehle
Khuda bande se khud pooche, bata teri raza kya hai.”
Translation:
Elevate your selfhood to such a height that before signing any destiny,
God Himself asks His servant: “Tell Me, what is your will?”
The other poem he recited in the video was “Ruh-e-Arzi Adam ka Istiqbaal Karti Hai (The Spirit of the Earth Welcomes Adam).
Instead of treating Adam’s exile from Paradise as a punishment, Iqbal presents it as a glorious graduation. The Earth steps forward not as a prison, but as a vast, untamed arena waiting to be conquered by human will, intellect, and Khudi (Selfhood).

In her forthcoming book, “Justice is at Stake: A Guide to Ethical Interreligious Engagement,” Dr. Jerusha T. Rhodes, Union Theological Seminary, underscores the necessity of an interreligious consciousness, especially for religious and ethical leaders, and explores the intersections among religious diversity, racism, sexism, and religious supremacy.

Eid ul-Adha Mubarak from the Princeton Muslim Life Program! We were so blessed to celebrate with a beautiful community and our students the day after commencement, which incidentally took place on the Day of Arafah. Imam Khalil encouraged us to recognize value in each other, reminded us of our immense privilege, Islam’s emphasis of inclusivity of people of all backgrounds, and our responsibility to be at service to humanity. May we all be at better service to our community and each other, Ameen.

Our Annual Mawlid An-Nabi was the perfect way to end our 2026 academic year.
A big thank you to Ammar Charaf, our NJ based Nasheed artist, honored speaker, Dr. Ebad Rahman, Associate Dean of Religious Life and Muslim Chaplain, Columbia University, and graduating seniors Yahya Habib and Sarina Hassan for their reflections on the Prophet ﷺ.
We couldn’t help but reflect multiple times throughout the night on this amazing tradition started by Imam Sohaib Sultan, Allah Yarhamo, and how much we felt the baraka (blessings) of his legacy till this day.
Alhamdulillah- all our love to such a beautiful community, our guests from in and out of town, everyone behind the scenes who made a wonderful event and year possible, and students who were able to attend (as well as those who couldn’t attend due to exams and end of the year conflicts).
You are all in our hearts and duas 🤍
Help us continue to provide our current and future students, our community, and all of you and your families with impactful, meaningful, and ongoing and uninterrupted engagement and programming throughout the year.
