Three children are dead.

Cora was 5. Dawson was 3. Callan was 8 months old. Their mother strangled them in their own house. That was never the dispute.

This morning a jury still could not say what that was. The judge moved toward a mistrial.

I did not hear every hour of testimony. I am not going to pretend I did. But I know this much: we have reached a place in this country where the deaths of three little children can be established and the room still cannot name it with one voice.

Jesus said it would be better for a man to have a millstone hung around his neck and be drowned in the depth of the sea than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. He was not being poetic. He was telling you how heaven sees a child.
Mental torment does not make a child less dead. A diagnosis does not cancel Exodus 20. Romans 13 still says the magistrate does not bear the sword in vain. When the sword cannot even be lifted after three graves, it’s not confusion. A conscience has been seared, or people have hardened their hearts.

Pray for a court that has to try this again. And do not let your heart get used to this. A society that cannot say murder is murder has already decided a child is negotiable. If three graves are not enough to settle the word, the next child is already unprotected.
