“The Way Back to God” Lenten Sermon Series ~ 4th Sunday!

This Sunday, March 15, we invited you to join us as we continue our Lenten journey with the fourth message in the series, “The Illusion of Control,” based on Matthew 6:25–34. Worship begins at 11:30 AM, and we would love to have you share this meaningful time with us.

Each message in this series explores Lent as a sacred journey of return. Together, we are reflecting on the subtle ways Christ-followers can drift away from God and the grace that gently and lovingly calls us back into His care.

Come worship, reflect, and be renewed as we walk this Lenten path together. All are welcome! Minister Carol L. Price-Guthrie is the Pastor.

UMCOR Sunday – God’s Promise of Restoration

This Sunday we recognize UMCOR Sunday, a special day in The United Methodist Church when we support the life-saving and life-restoring work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

Through UMCOR, our connectional giving helps provide disaster relief, support refugees and displaced persons, respond to humanitarian crises, and bring hope to communities around the world.

When we give, we become part of God’s promise of restoration—offering compassion, rebuilding lives, and reminding others that they are not alone.

Let us join together in prayer, generosity, and action as we continue the work of Christ in the world.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 (KJV)

Your heart starts healing sooner than you think. ❤️

If you use to***co — ci******es, va**ng, or other ni****ne products — quitting is one of the most important steps you can take for your heart and the people who love you.

Within 24 hours of quitting, heart attack risk begins to decline. The longer you stay to***co-free, the more your cardiovascular system recovers and heals.

Quitting isn’t easy. Ni****ne is addictive. But you don’t have to do it alone. Talk to your health care professional to build your quit plan. Explore cessation programs. Lean on your support system.

Protect your heart. Protect your family.

Here's a fact....African American communities are most affected by diabetes because they are more likely to live in under-resourced neighborhoods. Factors called "social determinants of health" including poverty, lack of access to healthy food, restrictions on safe physical activity, inadequate employment and limited educational opportunities can result in negative health outcomes in such communities. Take guard and take care to lower your risk!

Step 4: Track Your Blood Sugar. 📉

Black Americans are nearly 60% more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than white Americans — and uncontrolled blood sugar is a major driver of heart attack and stroke.

This is not just about "sugar"—it’s about protecting your heart, kidneys, and eyes from damage.

The ABC Breakdown:

The A1c Test: Your 3-month average of your blood sugar. Many people aim for less than 7%, but your target should be personalized with your provider.

Fasting Glucose: A healthy range is typically 70–99 mg/dL.

Modest weight loss matters: Even losing just 5-10% of body weight can significantly lower your risk.

Knowing your A1c is a non-negotiable step in self-advocacy. Have you been screened this year? Comment "CHECKED" below if you’ve had your blood sugar tested this year!

An Invitation to Fast. To all and dear Haven Chapel family, As we enter this sacred season of Lent, I invite you to join me in a time of fasting, prayer, and gentle reflection. Lent is not about restriction, but about making space — quieting distractions so our hearts can turn more fully toward God.

Whether you fast from a habit, a worry, a convenience, or simply commit to deeper prayer, let us walk this journey together with humility and grace. Come back to God; grace has already made the way. Minister Carol L. Price-Guthrie, Pastor

Celebrating Black History Sunday! Rev. Dr. Angela Hardy Cross was our featured guest speaker, bringing a powerful message entitled “Anointed for This Moment,” grounded in Luke 4:18–19.

Connecting Black history, lived experience, and the Lenten journey, she reminded us that to be anointed in this moment means recognizing that the Spirit still rests upon those called to confront injustice, heal brokenness, and proclaim hope. Black History is not only remembrance; it is continuation. The same Spirit that empowered Christ empowers us—to speak, to serve, to organize, to love, and to liberate.

We are anointed for such a time as this.
