The Orthodox Church is the indigenous Christian presence of Palestine and the surrounding region, rooted in the very land where Christ was born, lived, was crucified, and rose from the dead, where the Church itself began. For generations, Western colonial history, missionary movements, and political theology have shaped how the Holy Land is understood, often sidelining the voices of local Orthodox Christians and viewing them through an Orientalist lens.
This speaker & discussion series foregrounds the Orthodox Church as the indigenous Christian presence of Palestine and the region. It focuses how the Orthodox tradition can offer depth and steadiness to the movement for justice in Palestine.
Orthodox & non-Orthodox experts speak on: the colonial and Western missionary history of Palestine and the region, the Orthodox theological perspective on Christian Zionism, the lived experience of the Churches on the ground, what the Orthodox faith teaches us about first-hand and vicarious trauma, and concludes with Orthodox principles of social justice.

Each session will consist of a 30-45 minute talk by an expert on one of these subjects and 30 minutes for a substantive Q&A/discussion. All are welcome.

🟡 Introduction to the series by Fr. Paul Abernathy, from St. Moses the Black Orthodox Church 🙏
