Shabbat Shalom!

Tonight, members of Saint Christopher’s and a few of our friends visited Congregation Beth Israel in Corpus Christi for their weekly Shabbat Evening Liturgy. Prior to the Liturgy, Rabbi Cohen walked us through “Judaism Standing On One Leg”, and answered questions we had. After the liturgy we stayed for the Oneg—coffee hour—and had a wonderful time of fellowship.

Thank you to our new friends at Congregation Beth Israel for your hospitality. We look forward to hosting you in October.

Join us at Saint Christopher's on the evening of 5 August 2026, as we celebrate the Eve of the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ. Evening Prayer will begin at 5:00 p.m., and the Mass of the Day will begin at 5:30 p.m.

It has been said that in the Incarnation of Jesus, he took on our flesh and blood in order to redeem us wholly: What he did not take on, he could not redeem. In the same way, in the Transfiguration, we see Jesus as he is, in his glory, while still here on earth.

The Icon is from the 15th Century, and is of the Transfiguration, with Jesus in the center, joined by Moses and Elijah, with Saints Simon Peter, James, and John falling prostrate before them.

"When we say that we are not enough, and become paralyzed by that notion, what we are saying is we lack faith, we don’t trust Jesus, we have no reason to be loyal to Jesus, we don’t think he’s capable of doing the impossible. For us to be like Jesus and for us to take on the role of the disciples, all of us, every last member of the parish, must be totally in, totally willing to sacrifice. It is part of our role in the New Creation, to be instruments of showing forth God’s love made manifest in the redemption of the world. Why should a world that is redeemed, bought with the shedding of the Blood of the Lamb of God, not have disciples who are moved to mercy? Will you let your stomach churn when confronted with the hurt and pains of the world? Remember the words of Saint John Chrysostom: If you cannot find Christ in the beggar at the Church door, you will not find Him in the Chalice."

Happy Lammas Day!

There is a traditional custom in churches of Northern Europe to bless the first fruits of the harvest by taking some of the wheat, baking it into bread, and bringing it to the church to be used at the Mass on this day, August 1st. It is known as Lammas or Loaf Mass Day.

Join us at 10:00 am this morning as we celebrate Lammas Day at Saint Christopher’s.

Here is a photograph of our Loaf of the Day, baked by one of our youth last night, Abbie.
