Children of God, Called to Purity

As children of God, we are called to examine our hearts in the light of Christ’s truth. Purity begins within—guarding our hearts, our thoughts, our words, and our actions.

Because we belong to Jesus, we are not called to live in hatred, bitterness, selfishness, or hidden sin. We are called to love one another, forgive freely, walk in righteousness, and reflect the character of Christ.

“Everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” — 1 John 3:3

Today, let’s lay down every “rock” of resentment, repent where needed, and walk as the children of God we are called to be.

𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐄𝐥𝐬𝐞

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” — Proverbs 4:23

Our hearts shape our motives, thoughts, words, choices, and actions. That’s why we must examine ourselves with the truth of Christ. What we allow through our eyes, ears, tongue, hands, and feet matters.

Sin often begins quietly in the heart before it shows up in our lives. But in Christ, we are called to purity, love, forgiveness, mercy, and obedience. We are called to put down the “rocks” of bitterness, hatred, pride, and revenge—and instead love one another as Jesus commanded.

Today, ask the Lord to search your heart. Surrender what does not honor Him. Choose love. Choose mercy. Choose holiness. Guard your heart, because your life follows where your heart leads.

What does it mean to truly examine yourself with truth? This week's message challenges us to hold our lives up against the standard of Christ — his love, his purity, his sacrifice — and ask honestly whether we are walking in that same truth.

Rooted in 1 John 3 and Proverbs 4:23, Pastor Larry reminds us that guarding our hearts is not optional — it is the foundation of everything. The love we have for one another within the body of Christ is the very mark that identifies us as His disciples (John 13:34-35). Not our buildings. Not our Bibles. Our love.

Have you determined in your heart that you will finish well for the glory of God?

Serving Christ is not about titles, recognition, or being seen by others. It is about humility, faithfulness, love, and a willingness to serve the body of Christ—even when no one is watching.

Whether in the church, in the home, or in everyday life, our service should point others to Jesus. May our lives reflect His character, strengthen His people, and bring honor to His name until the very end.

“Do you see Jesus through my service?”

Let’s run the race with endurance, serve with humility, and finish well for the glory of God.

Devotional: The Foundation of Diaconal Service

Diaconal service is not about status, recognition, or a title—it is about humility, faithfulness, and Christlike love.

In Acts 6, the early church set apart servants to meet real needs within the body so that the ministry of the Word and prayer could continue faithfully. These men were to be full of the Spirit, wisdom, and good reputation. Their service strengthened the church and helped preserve unity.

The heart of a deacon is the heart of a servant: willing to go unnoticed, ready to meet needs, eager to protect unity, and committed to reflecting Jesus in both public and private life.

May we all ask ourselves: Do others see Jesus through my service?

Unity begins with humility. Peace is preserved when our words build up rather than tear down.

In today’s devotional, 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞, we’re reminded that followers of Christ are called to be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kind-hearted, and humble in spirit. The tongue can either wound or heal, divide or restore. By God’s grace, may we turn from evil, speak truth in love, pursue peace, and serve one another with the heart of Christ.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬

God is not looking for servants who crave recognition, status, or control. He calls His people to humility, faithfulness, integrity, self-control, and love.

True service begins in the heart and is first displayed at home, in our words, in our relationships, and in the quiet places no one else sees. Whether serving the church, leading a family, encouraging the hurting, or doing unseen tasks, the goal is the same: that others would see Jesus through our service.

May we be people who seek peace, guard our tongues, pray faithfully, serve humbly, and honor Christ in all things.
