Forgiving as the Lord Forgives Us

Because Christ has forgiven our enormous debt of sin, we are called to forgive others from the heart. Joseph trusted God’s providence; Paul reminds us that we belong to the Lord; and Jesus teaches that those who receive mercy are to show mercy.

“Forgive your brother from your heart.” — Matthew 18:35

✝️ We forgive because we have been forgiven.

“Take up your cross and follow Me.” Jesus reveals that His glory is found in His suffering, death, and resurrection. Through His cross, Christ redeems us and gives us hope.

As His people, we are called to rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, remain constant in prayer, and live in peace with others.

Christ has conquered through His cross and resurrection. Come and hear His Word, receive His gifts, and rejoice in His salvation!

August 30 Schedule Update

Pastor Peter Burfeind has declined the Divine Call extended to him by St. John’s.

A Voters’ Assembly meeting will be held on Sunday, August 30, immediately following the 9:00 a.m. Divine Service.

Please note the following schedule:

8:00 a.m. – Christian Education Hour Bible Study
Youth Bible Study – Canceled
Sunday School – Regular time (10:00 a.m.) following the Divine Service in the School Cafeteria

As we continue through the call process, we place our trust in Christ, who is the Head of His Church and who faithfully provides for His people. We therefore proceed in faith, trusting His Word and promises and praying for His continued guidance and provision for St. John’s.

Please continue to pray for our congregation and for the call process, trusting in the Lord’s faithful care.

Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Isaiah 51:1–6
Romans 11:33–12:8
Matthew 16:13–20

“Who do you say that I am?” Peter confesses, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

The Church rests not on human wisdom or strength, but on Christ and His Word. Jesus builds and preserves His Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

By His mercy, we confess Christ, receive His salvation, and serve our neighbor in thanksgiving.

Christ alone is our salvation, and He preserves His Church.

Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost

The Canaanite woman clings to Christ’s mercy even when His answer seems hidden. Her faith does not earn mercy. It simply clings to the mercy Christ freely gives.

We persist in prayer not because persistence earns God’s favor, but because Christ is merciful, His promises do not fail, and His mercy is greater than our sin.
