⛪️📖Changing Lives Through Summer Literacy Initiative⛪️📖
Because of a unique partnership between Moyock United Methodist Church, Pilmoor Memorial United Methodist Church, and Sharon United Methodist Church and our communities, children in Currituck County arrive at the Summer Literacy Initiative camp unable to read at grade level — and leave as more confident, capable readers.
Since 2023, SLI camp has provided free literacy education to over 45 children through our summer camp, giving them the skills they need to succeed in school and in life.
This year, we are preparing to serve 48 more children at three different sites — and we need your help to make it happen.
We are reaching out to community-minded businesses like yours to partner with us as a 2026 Camp Sponsor. A $10,000 gift would enable us to rent a bus and take students on field trips in the area. A $6,000 gift would cover the cost of our four Family engagement night meals for the summer at all three sites. A $1000 gift would provide supplies for the enrichment portion of our day at Pilmoor Memorial and Sharon UMCs. A $500 gift would provide supplies for an entire classroom of students for camp.
