Adult Education Study - Sacred Stories of Reconciliation in the Bible: Our Intimate Mess and God’s Healing
October 25, 2026 Sarah and Hagar (Genesis 21:1-21)
Course Description: Family is a blessing, and family is also a mess. Few things can bring us as much joy, and few things hurt quite as much. As we struggle and fret and mutter our way through the stressors that those closest to us can cause, it’s often easy to drift into the assumption that those tense relationships are unprecedented and unique. We know better, of course.
Nothing tells the truth of that quite as effectively as the great long story of Scripture. Throughout the Bible, we hear tale after tale of some impressively epic levels of familial discord and dysfunction. These narratives are part of our sacred book for a reason, and part of that reason is that they allow us to see how God can work, even through folks who clearly don’t have it all together.
For the several months, we’ll be reading through and discussing some of the more challenging relational wrecks in the Bible, exploring their meaning and how we can find our way to healing through them.
Requirements: Bring an open mind and a Bible. A good study bible (such as the New Revised Standard Version study bible) would really help for this class, but we’ve also got Bibles at the church, and all of it is available for free online at www.biblegateway.com. Join us!
