For 36 years, this community has created an abundance of life, meaning, connection, and purpose together.

💙 One chai for what we build for others
Am Kolel has always believed Jewish values belong in the world. That belief has helped seed and support organizations like Jews United for Justice, the Sanctuary Retreat Center, and SongRise. It continues today with new initiatives like DC Musical Shabbat and programs that help people turn vision into action.

💙 One chai for our community
We show up for one another. We celebrate Shabbat, we hold each other in life’s milestones, and we keep finding new ways to bring Jewish life, justice, and healing into the world. This year we are also piloting OLAMOT, a Jewish Wellness Festival, as we continue to grow and evolve together.

Thirty-six years in, we are not winding down. We are building forward.

As we look toward the next chapter, we are asking our community to help raise $50,000 this summer to sustain and strengthen the work ahead.

This Appeal supports all the various Am Kolel programs such as holiday celebrations, outreach and adult education and their associated operating and administrative costs.

Join Am Kolel for an afternoon of exploration, connection, and renewal on Sunday, May 31 from 1:00–6:00 PM at Temple Shalom in Chevy Chase, MD.

Named after the Hebrew word for “worlds,” OLAMOT brings together ancient Jewish wisdom and modern wellness practices through sessions in meditation, movement, healing arts, and mindful living. Whether you’re new to wellness or deeply rooted in your practice, all are welcome.

Join us for our first Montgomery County Musical Shabbat afternoon! This family-friendly Shabbat sing-along led by Debi Roemer and Rabbi Miriam Hoffman will include food and drinks. We will have some small instruments for kids, but please feel free to bring any musical instruments you want and join in on the fun!

Alison Cohen, mindfulness teacher and Jewish educator, presents an in-person Introduction to Applied Mindfulness Workshop, February 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM, focusing on accessible practices to reduce stress, cultivate present-moment awareness, and strengthen relationships, with relevant Jewish wisdom woven throughout. She will guide foundational meditation techniques and introduce practical ways to bring mindfulness into aspects of daily life, such as communication.

We will be focusing on 3 main topics:
Breath and body awareness practices
Working with thoughts and emotions
Bringing mindfulness into daily life, especially relationships

Workshop: 1:00-3:30 PM, followed by snacks and conversation until 4:00 PM (THIS WORKSHOP IS HYDRIB, IN PERSON & ON ZOOM)
