In 1885-86, St. Charles Lwanga, 21 Catholic companions, and 23 Anglican companions were martyred in Uganda. Many of these companions were pages and part of the court of the Kabaka (King) of Buganda (Bantu kingdom within modern day Uganda), Mwanga II. These companions refused to bend to the moral and political corruption of Mwanga. Mwanga realized the growing influence of the Christian movement and called forth any who prayed in such a way. Charles and his group stepped forward, and Mwanga ordered their ex*****on by burning, though a few were killed along their march to the ex*****on site. These heroic martyrs continue to inspire faith in the heart of Africa and across the world today. Their courage in seeking baptism and living fully in their Christian faith in the midst of persecution can inspire in us courage to act on our faith and morals in trying times.

“Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”🙏🩵

The Visitation is a powerful scene in Scripture including the first encounter between Christ and St. John the Baptist, St. Elizabeth’s praises, which are in the Hail Mary, and the Magnificat. Both our Blessed Mother and Elizabeth are examples of perfect faith and trust in God’s will. May we mirror their fiats in God’s will for us.🩵🙏

Catholic social teaching is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. There are several key themes of this teaching.

Solidarity

We are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences. We are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, wherever they may be. Loving our neighbor has global dimensions in a shrinking world. At the core of the virtue of solidarity is the pursuit of justice and peace. The Gospel calls us to be peacemakers. Our love for all our sisters and brothers demands that we promote peace in a world surrounded by violence and conflict.

Pope Leo XIV has released his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, a major teaching document on artificial intelligence, human dignity, and life in a digital age. In it, he addresses everything from children’s use of smartphones and doomscrolling to autonomous weapons, algorithmic injustice, and why no machine can ever define what it means to be a person created in the image of God.
For a quick overview, here are 15 key quotes that capture some of its most important insights.
