Food Bank Day falls on the first Friday in September. It is a great opportunity to give food to your local parish or community food bank collection!

Prayer: At the end of Mass, the original Latin ending phrase was “Ite, missa est.” While it does mean that the Mass is ended, it is also a call for the faithful to go forth to live the mission of the Church and the Eucharist. How do you bring the graces of Sunday and daily Mass into the broken world?
⁣
Action: Check with local food bank to see what their current greatest needs are, or stock them up with the next upcoming seasonal goods. Some common needed non-perishables include cereal, canned chicken, beans, and toiletries. Consider getting easy-to-open cans…not everyone may have can openers to use.
⁣
Almsgiving: Many of our local parishes have their own food banks or collect for larger food banks. Please give generously!

On two consecutive days we celebrate two powerful saints: St. Augustine and his mother, St. Monica. St. Monica knew the struggle of having a strained marriage and a wayward, lost child. St. Augustine, as we know, lived an unruly life into adulthood until confronted by the truth of Scripture. In the meantime, he fathered a child; that child would accompany him into baptism and later died around 18 years of age. St. Augustine knew the struggle of an unplanned pregnancy and the horrors of losing a child.
Many pregnancy clinics minister to fathers as well as mothers. For example, Parkville Women's Clinic offers a Fatherhood Program and Father Mentors who support the dads involved in unplanned and crisis pregnancies. Bishop James V. Johnston, Jr. has asked for a 9-month novena on the 25th of each month, February-October. The novena is intended to encourage prayer to end the threats to human dignity in the state of Missouri. Bishop Johnston specifically requests prayer related to continuing concerns in our community impacting immigrant families amid the ongoing surge in deportation efforts.

Additionally, later this year, voters in Missouri will once again be asked to address abortion laws in our state, particularly the loosening of restrictions that have long protected women in Missouri. We will be sharing more on this issue in the coming months, asking the faithful to vote "yes" on Amendment 3 in 2026.
