God has from the foundation of the world planned to conform us to the image of Christ. One of the ways He does that is through suffering and trials. Just as Christ was tempted, we will be tempted. Find purpose in those trials or else, the suffering is useless.

This Sunday in our Gospel of Mark series, we studied Mark 1:1–8 and saw how God has always prepared His people through faithful messengers who proclaim His Word. By tracing the Old Testament background behind John the Baptist’s ministry, we saw that the coming of Christ was not random, but the fulfillment of God’s promises and redemptive plan. We also considered the call to repentance, the greatness of Christ above every messenger, and the hope found in the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.

This Sunday at Community Church Pine Grove, we began a new series in the Gospel of Mark, looking at it as one of the earliest written accounts of Jesus’ life. Likely recorded through the eyewitness preaching of Peter the Apostle and written by John Mark. In this introduction, we saw how Mark opens with urgency and clarity: “the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” It’s a powerful invitation to see Jesus as the promised Messiah and Son of God, fulfilling God’s covenant promises and calling us to respond to Him.
