We finished Jonah this weekend. And spoiler alert: the ending is kind of a mess.

Jonah obeyed God. Nineveh repented. God showed mercy.
That should have been the happy ending.
Except Jonah was angry about it.

He was willing to deliver God's message, but he wasn't willing to have God's heart. He wanted grace for himself...but judgment for them.

Ouch. Because if we're not careful, we can do the same thing.

We love that God forgives us. We celebrate that God gives us another chance. We're grateful His mercy covers our failures.

But what about them?

The person who hurt us. The person we disagree with. The person whose choices make us angry. The person we're convinced doesn't deserve another chance.

Jonah reminds us that God's grace was never ours to ration.

And maybe that's the biggest lesson from these four weeks: Jonah isn't really a story about a man and a whale. It's a story about God.

A God who didn't give up on Jonah. A God who didn't give up on Nineveh. And a God whose grace, mercy and love reach much farther than ours do.

Thank God for that. ❤️

🇺🇸 This Friday, September 11 at 7:00 PM, we will gather for a special September 11 Remembrance Service at Fresh Start Church.

We’ll be joined by first responders from departments and agencies throughout our area as we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor those who ran toward danger, and recognize the men and women who continue to serve and protect our communities today.

And this is where you come in.

🤍 Invite your friends and neighbors.
💙 Bring your family.
🇺🇸 And most importantly, show up.

Let’s fill the sanctuary and let our local first responders see just how much this community appreciates and supports them.

Most of us know how to change our behavior...

We can smile when we're frustrated.
Say the right words.
Do what we're supposed to do.

But changing what's happening on the inside?
That's a different story.

As we wrap up our Jonah series this weekend, we'll discover that God isn't just interested in changing our actions. He wants to change our hearts.

Because real transformation isn't about looking different on the outside, it's about becoming different on the inside.

Whether you've been with us for the whole series or this would be your first week, there's still time to jump in.

📍 Saturday • 6:11 PM • Pine City
📍 Sunday • 10:00 AM • Pine City
📍 Sunday • 10:00 AM • Miracle Mile (Elmira)
📍 Sunday • 10:00 AM • Watkins Glen (The Glen Theatre)

We'd love to see you as we conclude the story of Jonah, and discover why its final chapter may be the one that speaks to us the most.

MIDWEEK QUESTION:

Think of the person you believe is least likely to ever change. Got someone?

Now here's the harder question:
Have you stopped praying for them because you've decided they're too far gone?

Jonah was convinced he knew exactly how the Ninevites would respond. He was wrong. Because changing someone's heart was never Jonah's job.

And it's not ours either. That's God's job.

Our job is to love. To pray. To share grace. To be obedient when God tells us to go.

So here's your challenge:
Pray for the person you've almost given up on.

Don't try to fix them.
Don't decide what God can or can't do in their life.
Just pray, and leave room for God to surprise you.
