Happy Friday!
We hope and pray for your holiday weekend to be a fruitful time for you and your families as this weekend closes summer and the year begins for the school year.
Our scripture for this week is from Matthew 18: 15-20. It is verse 20 that everyone knows. "And when two or three are gathered because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there." MSG.
Isn't it interesting that everyone remembers this, but we don't know what the verses are about right before this. Verses 15-19 are about accountability. Well no wonder we don't remember it! And, it is about accountability within the church and dealing with sin. First, we all sin. So this is good for all of us. These verses are good instruction for life, and isn't that really our church. The lesson teaches us how to confront these situations, and in love. The lessons also address how to do this as it escalates. It is a good thing, but we have other sins that get in the way like pride, or being stubborn for just a few. The evil one likes to use these other obstacles to prevent the healing and growth; to side step the path of love and grace, and to prevent healing. Take some time to study this scripture to prepare yourself and make you strong, and able to recognize the instructions that are placed before us, and prevent healing and understanding, and allowing forgiveness. When we understand this and follow his teachings...we can count on it that he will be there with us.

Happy Friday!
The scripture reference for Sunday's message is from Matthew 16: 21-28.
Jesus is teaching the disciples and Peter had just declared that Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus is telling them of his upcoming suffering and death. Then Jesus tells us what it means to be his disciple. Believing in Jesus is simple, but being his disciple, well that's different. Take up my cross? Loose my life? We know what happened to Jesus.
We humans take things so literally. We want to be in control and everything today is about self help. Let's look at verses 24-26 in the Message translation.
"Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You're not in the driver's seat; I am. Don't run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I'll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?"
Gwen Beckman who is in Seminary School is providing our message this Sunday at 9am, and it will be interesting what God has put on her heart. What does this word of truth put on your heart?

Happy Friday!
One of the scriptures for this week is from Matthew 16: 13-20. It tells about Jesus asking his disciples, "Who do you say I am?" Jesus responds to Peter's answer telling him that it came from God revealing it in his heart. It is that response, our response to God's spirit, that Jesus will build the church. You do not have to change to come to God, but he will not leave you the same.

Our church is doing something new! Pastors Jeff and Sheila each have a Sunday service and the other Sundays our messages are brought to us by other people. Some are people from our community or are members from our church. This Sunday our message is from Jessica Molter. God is doing a new thing!

Happy Friday!
Our scripture this week is Psalm 17: 1-7, 15 about seeking the face of God. What does it mean to recognize the face of God? We are called to pay attention to opportunities to praise him throughout our day, to be aware of God's presence, to always be seeking...beyond what is actually before our eyes. We are always looking at the physical. Always remember Jesus's words to the woman at the well. It is about Spirit and Truth. Beholding the face of God is more about taking a faith stance towards the community around us. Then we will be blessed to see the divine presence in surprising places and in big and small moments. And in moments worthy of a praise break.

Arrived early to prop the front door open to air out and make it easier for some to come in. We were halfway through the video of the Bishop's Episcopal message from the annual conference. There was a disturbance in the back of the sanctuary. Looking back two of the older ladies with their eyes wide and mouths open had the ram poking his head over their shoulders in the back pew, his horns up over their heads. Trying to guide him back out and he tried to do an end around up the center aisle with his two does following. Ended up grabbing his horn to guide him back outside. They hung out on the front porch with their faces against the glass window looking inside. A slight concern of him head butting the glass window. Took a little bit to get centered again on the Bishop's message. Mentioned the scripture verse of Jesus separating the sheep and the goats helped everyone to laugh. After the service we had to clean off the front porch where the goats had left their offerings. I guess He didn't want us to forget this morning's message, even the goats wanted to listen to the call to "Rise Up!" When your church is in the country, you never know who will pop in.

Happy Friday!
Our scripture this week is from Romans 8: 26-39 and Paul is reminding us that we're all in this whole thing of life together. That includes God, his Son Jesus, and his Spirit. Corporate worship is our opportunity to practice this togetherness, but living this is much harder. Paul reminds us the foundation is God's neverending love. Some say, "I don't need to be a part of a church to be a follower of Jesus Christ." No, it is not necessary, but it is very important. To be a Christian, Paul tells us we need a community around us, we need a sense of belonging and a way to live out our discipleship to Jesus day by day. We need to worship God, a neighbor to love and show kindness, and we need a community to support us. Pray for guidance and discernment to notice and work with the Spirit to knit our community together.

Happy Friday!
Our scripture this week is from Paul's letter of Romans 8: 12-25, and our message this week is from Pastor Sheila. There is a difference of faith through spirit vs law, of relationship vs rituals, of daily living vs the possibilities of what's next. Because of our past and present sins, our faith in Jesus and who he is, and surrendering our pride and authority to allow him to rule over our lives has created us into a new creation. "For all God gave to his Son Jesus is now ours too." His Holy Spirit now speaks to us deep in our hearts, and tells us we are God's children. It is sometimes hard to understand and comprehend. The spirit of this world will come after us that much more because of our fears and doubts. That is one reason why we must come together as a body of believers . To praise our Father together as his children, and to minister, mentor, and through love guide each other in our daily living.

We look forward to hearing from Pastor Sheila's message and starting this new journey with her and Pastor Jeff; and all those others stepping forward from the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Service starts at 9 am on Sunday, but our worship is every moment. As Matthew said in the Chosen, "When I wake up in the morning, my only job is to serve Jesus."
