Romans 12:11-12
"Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer." NIV
Are you ever lacking in zeal? I know I have times where the cares of the world seem to overshadow my zeal. Paul admonishes the Romans to keep their spiritual fervor. We can be overwhelmed at times but need to remind ourselves of the goodness of God.
He goes on to say to be joyful in hope. What does that mean? Unlike people who don't know Christ, we have hope that we will not remain in the same circumstances if we trust in the Lord and are obedient. That is cause for joy. What is going on will pass!
The next thing Paul says is to be patient in affliction. That is a hard one! No one likes affliction!! But again, with joyful hope in the Lord, we can know that this affliction will pass. If we are wise, we will ask the Lord to show us what we can learn in the process of waiting. It may be a great opportunity to grow in our faith and mature.
The last part of this passage says to be faithful in prayer. Are we moaning and groaning about our circumstances or are we spending time with the Lord, casting all our cares on Him, trusting in Him and thanking Him that He works everything together for good for those who are called according to His purposes?
Joyful Hope, Patience and Prayer!! We are victorious in Christ!
