Psalms 127:1a

"Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted." NLT

Marriage is heavily upon my thoughts today. We attended a beautiful wedding ceremony of our Godson last weekend and today is our 47th anniversary. There was a table with a Bible on it at the reception and we were asked to mark favorite verses with a note. The above is one of the verses I chose. It reminded me of the sacredness of the covenant we make with God and how important it is to build our home of the foundation of the Lord.

There were many, many times that I would not have believed that we would still be together after 47 years. The verse above is the reason and the only reason it has worked - the Lord! Unless the Lord builds the house, it cannot stand. We stand before God on the day we enter into covenant with our spouse and make commitments to love, honor and cherish each other the rest of our lives. Sounds easy - right? Wrong!! It is a daily walk of faith.

Our marriage is to be a picture of the relationship between Christ and His Bride. Christ has given us unconditional love so we are called do the same with our spouse. How, you might ask? How do you love when the going gets tough? Remember, love is not just an emotion, it is a commitment to CHOOSE love in spite of our faults and disagreements and to allow Christ to be the center. If we submit our will to God, then He will lead us through whatever challenges we face. When we choose to live focused on ourselves, the outcome is not always so good.

As a young person I thought love was all romantic feelings and being happy. Instead, I have learned it is a deep, abiding choice that we make to choose the path of love through Christ. It is truly a blessing to be one with each other and one with Christ. A 3-strand cord cannot be easily broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12).

Let's choose love and let God be the lead in all of our relationships!

1 Corinthians 12:27

"All of you together are Christ's body, and each of you is a part." NLT

I have given a lot of thought recently as to why we go to church. It is common to hear various complaints about churches and their lack of providing what someone needs. A question for all of us is do we have a Biblical view of church?

First, church is not a building, a style of service, a sermon series, a children's ministry or whatever we think is important. We are the church! It is a gathering of Christ followers! Each of us are part of the Body of Christ and we all have a function, a purpose when we meet! It doesn't mean we are all preaching, teaching, or leading worship. We gather together to support one another in the faith. We are to love one another, encourage one another, pray for one another, serve each other in whatever capacity we are called. The idea is that we strengthen each other to go out and reach others for Christ.

Christ was the ultimate servant leader. He gave His life to serve us. Let's be a follower of Christ's example and encourage and serve others in the faith as we gather as the church!

Romans 10:14-15

"But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, how beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!"." NLT

How many of us believe it is the role of the Pastors, Evangelists, Missionaries, or church leaders to spread the Gospel? You may think you are not good enough, experienced or even worthy - but those are all lies of the enemy to stop the spreading of the Good News. We were challenged at a recent church conference to be available to the Holy Spirit when we are in our communities so that we can see that people are hurting all around us. We see them but now what?

Have conversations with people. It is amazing how people will open up and share their struggles. You don't have to have the answers, but you do have to KNOW the one who does! Simply then offer to pray for them. Most will say yes. If they do, just pray a simple prayer. You don't have to pray in King James English with eloquent words. Most people are usually very grateful. Ask them if they have a church home. If they don't, invite them to your church! People attend churches where they feel welcome and loved.

Church - sow seeds of love in your sphere of influence! The Holy Spirit will do the work in their hearts. Be beautiful feet!
