Our very own Bryan von Folmar is featured today in our Communion’s Blog series “I am Convergent”

Some stories remind us that faith is not always inherited in the usual way.

Sometimes it begins with love.

Sometimes it begins with curiosity.

Sometimes it begins by watching someone you love pray, serve, and give their life to the Church.

In this newest “I Am Convergent” reflection, Bryan von Folmar shares his journey into Convergent Catholicism. His story begins with a fragile birth, an adoption rooted in love, and a family shaped by service. It moves through discovery, loss, healing, and the quiet grace of finding a spiritual home.

Bryan did not grow up deeply formed by the Church. But a Christmas Eve Mass at an Episcopal Cathedral opened a door. What began as love and curiosity became a life of prayer, service, and steady support for the people of God.

As husband to the Primus, Bryan has walked beside the Convergent Catholic Communion through its growth, struggle, and calling. Not from the spotlight. Not with titles. But with love, prayer, and the kind of faithful presence that holds communities together.

His reflection is called “A Church That Feels Like Home.”

And that is exactly what this story offers.

A reminder that the Church is not a club for people who have everything figured out. It is a family of imperfect people learning to follow Christ together.

Almighty God, Source of mercy and of all life, you created humankind in your image and likeness, and in Christ you have broken down every wall raised by sin, fear, and contempt. Look with compassion upon your LGBTQIA+ children, especially those wounded by rejection, false teaching, and the misuse of your holy Name. Cleanse your Church from pride without truth, zeal without love, and doctrine without mercy. By your Holy Spirit, gather us into one Body, where no member is despised, no gift is silenced, and no soul is denied the grace you freely give. Make us steadfast in holiness, courageous in witness, and faithful in love, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. amen

They were prayed, argued, suffered over, and defended because the Church knew that the truth about God shapes the truth about us."
