Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church Join us for online worship on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. Watch our livestream from Facebook. Find us on the web at www.chestnutgrovechurch.net

Our church was born 171 years ago in the home of a school teacher and circuit-riding pastor; the founding 12 members were mostly farmers. A few of our older members still recall Chestnut Grove as a “little country church,” and we still worship in the sanctuary of our forebears, built in the 1850s (and expanded repeatedly, most recently in 1992). Reflecting our community, many of our members have a

high level of artistic, educational and professional attainment, and their willingness to volunteer is a strong support to our programs. There is spiritual curiosity and openness to learning. About half our members have grown up in any of 20 or so non-Presbyterian traditions, or in no tradition. As in many churches, our numbers have declined over a 20-year period, but we retain a core of committed and loving Christians, willing to work for God’s glory.

There’s a rack of picture Bibles at kid-height. The covers are a little soft from years of small hands. The kids know which one they want.

This is one of the ways a story stays in the family. They pick it up at four. They remember it at twenty-four.

Some Sundays you walk in worn out. Then someone catches your eye, smiles like they’ve been waiting all week to see you, and the morning shifts.

That happens here. People who have been showing up for a long time know what it is to be welcomed, and they want to pass it on.

Services are at 10:00 AM, in person and online. You won’t be a stranger for long.

This is a real prayer in the Gospels. A father, asking Jesus for help and also asking for help with the asking.

Not "I have it figured out." Not "I am sure." Both halves of the sentence at the same time. If that is closer to where you are than the Sunday school answer, you are walking the same path that we are.

Sundays at 10:00 AM. In person in Phoenix or online.

Week 2, May 31
My Peace I Give You | John 14:15-27

Hours from the cross, Jesus sat with his friends and promised them something the world could not give.

This Sunday we sit with that promise, and the kind of peace that doesn't depend on the news.

New Sermon Series: The Gift of the Spirit | Acts 2:1-21, 37-39

It started with wind and fire. By the end, strangers from a dozen countries had heard the news of God in their own language. This Sunday we begin a new series, Come, Holy Spirit, with a gift no one had to earn.
