Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church

Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church Join us for online worship on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. Watch our livestream from Facebook. Find us on the web at www.chestnutgrovechurch.net

Our church was born 171 years ago in the home of a school teacher and circuit-riding pastor; the founding 12 members were mostly farmers. A few of our older members still recall Chestnut Grove as a “little country church,” and we still worship in the sanctuary of our forebears, built in the 1850s (and expanded repeatedly, most recently in 1992). Reflecting our community, many of our members have a

high level of artistic, educational and professional attainment, and their willingness to volunteer is a strong support to our programs. There is spiritual curiosity and openness to learning. About half our members have grown up in any of 20 or so non-Presbyterian traditions, or in no tradition. As in many churches, our numbers have declined over a 20-year period, but we retain a core of committed and loving Christians, willing to work for God’s glory.

"Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."

Two or three. Jesus made the bar that low on purpose.

Whatever your family's version of gathering looks like this week, the promise applies.

Sundays at 10:00 AM. In person in Phoenix or online.

A new piano. An old hymn. A pair of hands finding the melody one note at a time. The music. The beauty. Our worship. Some Sundays it’s that simple.

This is the kids’ room. The games are real. The lessons land at their level. And the teachers know everybody’s name.

A four-year-old will tell you what they did. A nine-year-old will pretend they’ve forgotten. Both will want to come back next week.

Worship at 10:00 AM, in person and online. We’ll take good care of them.

This past Sunday we ordained and installed new elders and deacons at Chestnut Grove.

The congregation gathered around them, hands on shoulders, and prayed over them as they stepped into their new roles. It was a sweet moment for our church family, and we're thankful for each of these members who said yes to serving.

If you see them on Sunday, tell them you're glad they did.

On any given Sunday in Spring the long tables go up in the church lawn. There’s room for everyone. The eight-year-old is at one end. Her grandmother’s friend is at the other. The conversation makes it both ways.

This is one of the reasons we keep saying family. It’s bigger than the household you walked in with.
