Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia The spirituality of the Sisters of Saint Joseph is a basic Gospel call to love God and neighbor. We are a community of approximately 825 women religious.

Originally founded in 1650 in LePuy, France, the Sisters of Saint Joseph came to Philadelphia in 1847. Through our many ministries, including educations, healthcare, social services and parish ministry, “we live and work so that all people may be united with God and with one another.” (Mission Statement)

With both deep sadness and grateful joy, we share the rising to new life of our sister, Sister Rosemarie Lorenz SSJ (Mary Ambrose). Sister entered eternal life on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
