My prayer for this occasion:

Almighty God, thank you for the many blessings you have rained down on our nation. In our great experiment to form a “more perfect union” where we strove to be a nation guided by your principles and justice, not every step we have taken has pointing in Your direction. Thank you, LORD, for Your mercy that we do not deserve. Turn our hearts to You, Oh LORD. Jesus, as you have shown us what love is through Your death on the cross for our salvation. Help us understand and embody Your virtues in our land.
Grant us eyes to see the things you would have us do and the courage to do those things. Help our nation come together as we seek to be a force of good in Your World. Bless our children and our children’s children with a nation that seeks to follow You.
We ask all these things in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus
