Founded in 1875, Bay View is a Chautauqua providing Education, Recreation, Performing Arts & Worship.

Bay View was founded in 1875 by Michigan Methodists as a camp meeting "for intellectual and scientific culture and the promotion of the cause of religion and morality." From its beginning, the Association has welcomed persons of any denominational affiliation who have desired to assist in perpetuating the Association's principles and purpose. By the late 1800's, the Bay View Association had become a pioneering institution in public education. It boasted an ambitious summer university, a Chautauqua series attracting tens of thousands of visitors, and a home-study program enrolling men and women across the nation. During this period, the raw territory where the early "tent city" was built was transformed into a resort community of such Victorian charm that in 1987, Bay View was designated a National Historic Landmark.

While campus is quiet, our Buildings & Grounds team is busy caring for Bay View, including restoration work at Evelyn Hall, painting floors in the Loud kitchen, and sidewalk repairs.

The off-season is the perfect time to tackle these projects safely, without interfering with summer programming. We’re grateful for the skills and craftsmanship our staff brings to this work. Doing it ourselves saves costs and, just as importantly, creates a sense of pride in caring for the place we all love.

In September, our Bay View community donated an incredible 83 pounds of canned goods to Manna Food Project!

Thank you to everyone who contributed and dropped off food at the Post Office, and to our Bay View Community members who coordinated the delivery. Your generosity is a wonderful reminder of what we can accomplish when our community comes together!

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor family, our staff recently enjoyed a lovely lunch at Side Door Saloon! We’re grateful for this thoughtful act of hospitality and for the reminder that the people who care for Bay View are cared for, too.

Thank you for making our team feel appreciated and valued. We’re fortunate to be part of such a thoughtful community!

Turns out, Bay View is beautiful even on a foggy day, and it doesn't stop some of our "residents" from their routines.

A big thank-you to everyone who joined us for our potlucks this season! We’ve shared wonderful food, conversation, and community, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make these gatherings so special.

Potlucks are taking a winter break, but we look forward to reconnecting in May at Campus Club, "Where Strangers Become Friends.

Until then, stay warm, and we’ll see you in the spring!
