During the June 2026 SBC Annual Meeting in Orlando, messengers officially affirmed Resolution 9 titled "On the Office and Function of Pastor/Elder/Overseer".

The resolution reaffirmed the denomination's stance that these titles refer to the same biblical office and that this role is strictly limited to qualified men.

It also encouraged churches to use pastoral titles consistently with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

Alongside the resolution, messengers also took a major step to amend the SBC Constitution, passing an amendment to permanently solidify the ban on cooperating churches endorsing or employing women in the office or function of a pastor, elder, or overseer. This constitutional measure requires a second passing vote at the 2027 Annual Meeting to be officially enacted.
