What a great evening of worship we had tonight! We had a special baptism service and 3 men were baptized, 2 more who were signed up but circumstances didn’t allow for them to be there. It was a special evening and God was glorified!!

Easter!! Today, New Life was able to hold an Easter Service in the gym at NCF. What a blessing that was. We had a larger space, more men able to attend, and a wonderful time of worship and prayer celebrating our Risen Savior! It was a good day.

Sometimes our time of prayer and requests carry a common theme. Family. Family is so precious! Especially to an incarcerated person. One prayer last night was for a girlfriend on their second anniversary and praying for a lifetime together, another was blessing his wife of 54 years for always being by his side, an another for his brother hoping for parole. The gift and love of family has no walls. Take time to thank God for your family tonight, especially if you are near each other!

Its a strange dynamic. At New Life we want our members to leave our church. That means release from the prison. When men leave New Life we are excited to see them go, but sad to see them go at the same time. Tonight we had the wonderful opportunity to hear about being Light in the World, Celebrating Communion, then praying 2 men out as they prepare to leave. Also knowing that 1 other regular member was released just earlier.
I want to invite you when you read this to pause and pray for our members who have recently been released. It is not easy for them to adjust back into life on the outside.

This morning was a special morning! New Life celebrated the birth of Jesus in the prison gym with several men for our Christmas Service! It was such a blessing to be able to do that and several men came to rededicate their life to Christ!

Jim Cymbala writes in his book “Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire” that sometimes (in context of a worship service) “Spontaneity and the leading of the Spirit have been thrown out in the name of keeping things on schedule”.
I thought of this tonight as a man wanted to share his testimony during our service. He asked a week ago if he could do so. No one really knew him and last week was his first time visiting. I said yes let’s do that. Not knowing what he was going to say or talk about, or having the ability to find out - prison restrictions - made me a little anxious going into the service tonight. “Will he be there, will he still want to testify, what will he say if so, will I have to stop it if goes off the rails, will it be a rant….” My questions in my head were many. I would like to control the narrative in other words.
He was there, he wanted to share - The Spirit lead him to do so and it was so powerful. You could have heard a pin drop, could have heard a tear drop - there were many. The story of a young man, raised in the church - walked away, abused and abusing, hurt and hurting others, ready to give up on life entirely. The story of redemption, of discipleship, of a couple people who never gave up on him, of Jesus who says “Neither do I condemn you”.
I have no doubt that a few lives will be changed because of the Spirit lead spontaneity of this young man wanting to share how Holy Spirit has moved in his own life!

I wish there were words to say. To convey the movement of Holy Spirit in a small room in a prison. Gods word spoken, songs of worship, lifting each other and our families in prayer, Communion. It was a wonderful night. My last interaction tonight was with a man whose marriage is dissolving and he was just in tears that New Life comes week after week to bring Gods love to a broken man like himself. God is good!

At New Life Church we have been going through the Fruit of the Spirit! We have covered Love, Joy, Peace and tonight was on Patience. It was a great night and we were all challenged with ways we can exercise patience in our lives!

Sometimes the power of a worship song is hard to describe. This past week in our worship service as Cindy led the song “Everything’s gonna be Alright” I made eye contact with man on the verge of being released. He is excited, he is scared, he was happy to have one last communion with his brothers inside, and he was just holding back the tears. A gentle giant of a man, with a quivering chin as he was reminded that Jesus has him in his hands and everything is gonna be alright. It was a powerful moment.
