It matters that we proclaim the Gospel honestly and loudly at a time when there are those who seek to manipulate Christian beliefs when it suits their purposes and silence them when they do not.

Peace and reconciliation are rooted in the Gospel. Full stop.

What we believe: The United Methodist Church (UMC) defines peace not merely as the absence of war, but as a dynamic, active state ("Shalom") where righteousness, justice, and love prevail. We believe true peace requires the presence of justice, not just the absence of tension or conflict. This includes advocacy for disarmament, the reduction of violence, and the dismantling of oppression.

Our understanding of reconciliation is grounded in God’s work through Jesus Christ to heal a broken world and restore relationships.

A moment, please, to reflect on the value of each life placed on this Earth.

Take a moment, please, to reflect on those living in areas of war and the realities for them, their families, and their way of life.

As Christians, as United Methodists, as citizens of a nation not located in war, might we recognize this moment in history and what it means to support war and the countless lives it affects.

In moments like this, people often turn to their faith for guidance in understanding what their Church has to say about social issues. United Methodists do so through what are called our Social Principles which are written and adopted by United Methodists from around the world.

Regarding war, our Social Principles state:

"The church deplores war and all other forms of violent conflict and urges the peaceful settlement of all disputes. We yearn for the day when there will be no more war and people will live together in peace and justice. We reject the use of war as an instrument of foreign policy and insist that every peaceful and diplomatic means of resolution be exhausted before the start of armed conflicts. Similarly, we oppose the increasing reliance on preemptive strikes unless they can be clearly demonstrated to be proportionate in response, delimited in human casualties, and undertaken in response to clear and immediate threats to human lives. We grieve that in a world where so many live in poverty, governments continue to dedicate enormous resources to preparing for and conducting wars. We are especially distressed by the proliferation of nuclear weapons and call not only for an end to their production, but for their complete elimination." UMC Social Principles 2020/2024

We welcome the new season 🌱 and the promise of life it brings.

May this weekend's experiences in community and worship offer you glimpses of the new life God is bringing into being all the time.

🙏 God of new life,
as the earth awakens, awaken us.

Renew our spirits where we feel weary.
Plant in us fresh hope for the work you’ve called us to do.

And as we engage in ministry,
may we notice the small signs of growth all around us.

Through your Spirit. Amen.

As we begin our Lenten journey toward Holy Week please join us for our Ash Wednesday Service Wednesday February 19th at 6 pm.

12 Yet even now, says the Lord,
return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;
13 rend your hearts and not your clothing.
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love,
and relenting from punishment. Joel 2:12-13, NRSV
