Wayside Community Church is located at 3520 Wayside Road in Stuart, VA near the intersection of Wayside Road and Big A School Road. Before it was Wayside Community Church, there was a wooden framed church near where the entrance is to the current cemetery and was called Wayside United Methodist Church. When it burnt down, people in the community rebuilt the church and changed the name to Wayside Community Church in 1927. People in the community used it for school and church until Big A School was built. Lois Gilbert, 96 years old, recalls going their as a little girl for school and church. “Ab” Gilbert gave the land for the church. Lois Gilbert recalls, her father Robert “Bob” Gilbert, hauled field rock for the platform for the new church and remembers going there for ice cream socials. Currently, it is a brick church with future additions planned. The Janssen piano (Serial#99332) is dated 1939 and is still in good working order. The church also has a well kept cemetery. Since February 2005, the church attendance has grown from 52 to 91 in attendance on May 8, 2005. A Board of Trustees was established in February 2005. Many improvements have been made including painting, electrical, woodwork, parking expansion and landscaping. Recently, land has been donated by Ted Kirby and Raymond Hall. Souls have been saved and many people have devoted time and made donations throughout the years and worked for the Glory of the Lord. The Spirit of the Lord is working in great ways. Church services begin every Sunday at 11:00 a.m., with music beginning at 10:30 a.m. and there is also a Wednesday night service. The congregation’s strong faith in Jesus makes this church a vibrant part of the community and united many folks in the community. We welcome everyone to come out and worship with us. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 KJV)
