Job 5-7
Devotional Thought
In the starting verse of today's reading, Eliphaz tells Job to "call now if there be any that will answer thee" Eliphaz tells Job to call witnesses to defend him. In Job's answer he says "To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend" It is the assumption of guilt of sin with only the cavity as evidence that brings these friends into judgment. In all we know not what God works and we should be mindful of that.

Job 1-4
Devotional Thought
Before churches were lights on a hill, there was Israel; and before Israel, there was Job. He gave glory to God and provided a light unto him. Before we get into the critiquing of his friends in tomorrow's reading and those the rest of the week, let's consider the fact they came, and further they were believers in God as well. They dont come and say Job suffers because he's serving the wrong God. Perhaps they were believers without the influence of Job and they were all friends because they had that in common, but it also could be they were believers because Job was that light.

Esther 6-10
Devotional Thought
God doesn't prevent all this from happening. We see God in his Providence reverse the wicked plans of Haman, but we also understand from today's reading that the end result is not simply balancing the evil with the good. The Jews do not come back to a position equal to their position before Haman. At the end of chapter 8 we are told many people became Jews for the fear of the Jews fell upon them. People of strange lands converted to Judaism because of what happened. God worked it for good and made Israel a testimony throughout the empire.

Esther 1-5
Devotional Thought
Mordecai tells Esther in today's reading that she might have come to the kingdom for such a time as this. This sums up the book of Esther quite well. The Providence of God is hardly seen more clearly than in this book. Though God's Providence is clearly noted, we also see free will, from the king, to Vashti, to the king's selection for the next queen, Mordecai's involvement in the foiling of an assassination attempt, to his refusal to bow to Haman and also Haman's desire to destroy the jews. Finally even Haman's wife who thought to have a gallows built which would be her own demise. God's Providence while allowing free will is a grand display of his foreknowledge and planning.

Nehemiah 12-13
Devotional Thought
Nehemiah wanted to be remembered for good. Specifically, he wanted to be remembered for good by God. I'm pretty sure in his fellow Israelites' eyes he was a thorn in their side, but he didn't care what his fellow man thought of him in respect to the welfare of the nation. They were sowing the destruction of the nation through further defiance of God. Nehemiah did not allow that in his quest to please God.

Nehemiah 10-11
Devotional Thought
In today's reading we find organization and preparation for long term service in Jerusalem and Judah. The land and cities need inhabited and organized in such a way to insure future worship and tithes. Such organization is established and is still tofay pleasing to the Lord.

Nehemiah 8-9
Devotional Thought
Today's reading sounds alot like what we practice today in worship. Particularly the reading of scripture and causing the congregation to understand the law, and they went when they understood it. Yet they worshipped and recounted their history and their sins and God's mercy. Such is praise and confessions and repentance.

Nehemiah 7
Devotional Thought
Nehemiah records much of what Ezra recorded as well. Discrepancies can probably be explained by Ezra recording those planning to return while Nehemiah records those who did. Again we find a large workforce and residents representing the fulfillment of God's promise to restore Jerusalem

Nehemiah 4-6
Devotional Thought
There are times in scripture we see faith producing courage. In today's reading we see it multiplied, as all those working on rhe wall, which we saw yesterday we very many, are working with a hammer in one hand and sword in the other. At the end thereof, their enemies were cast down in their own eyes for the perceived that the work was wrought by God. Let faith give us courage to stand in time of trial as well that God may be glorified
