You can never tell what sort of plant life you may find at Maple Mount. On the front of campus near Bethany Hall, the yucca plants are growing tall. Although mostly thought of in the Southwest, there are 50 species of yucca, some of which can flourish in Canada. Thanks to Sister Nancy Murphy for pointing out our yucca plants.

Today is the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua, the great Franciscan friar of the 13th century known for his preaching skills -- and perhaps better known now for helping people find lost items, like keys and glasses. Saint Anthony is one of the saints featured on the Maple Mount Shrine Meditation Walk. You are welcome to visit all the shrines at Maple Mount, with narration provided through the Mount website. You can learn more here: https://ursulinesmsj.org/shrine-meditation-walk/

Every Ursuline Sister has a story. The cemetery at Maple Mount is the final home to more than 500 Ursuline Sisters, each of whom has a summation of her life -- known as a necrology -- that were until recently only available for viewing in a binder found in the vestibule of the Motherhouse Chapel. Each of those necrologies is now available on the Ursuline website, along with a photo of the Sister (if one exists) and her location in the cemetery. You can find this searchable database under the Visit the Mount tab on the website, or you can click here: https://ursulinesmsj.org/necrologies/

Six soon-to-be seventh graders from St. Pius X Parish in Owensboro, Ky., came to Maple Mount on June 4, 2026, to do some work and then visit with the Ursuline Sisters for ice cream. The young people pulled weeds around Sister Alicia Coomes’ home and the Saint Joseph grotto in the park, and put away tables in Maple Hall. They are taking part in Mission Owensboro, in which they are introduced to public service before they reach high school.
