John 11:52-57 Instead of believing that Jesus is the Messiah by proof of raising Lazarus from the dead, the chief priests and Pharisees plotted how they could kill Him and therefore retain their position among the people; it did not matter whether or not Jesus came from above. Yet, while the time of His passion drew near, Jesus would not subject Himself to the cruelty and scheming of the religious leaders until it was the exact time and place to do so. Before the passover, Jesus therefore retreated to a country near the wilderness, where He knew the religious leaders would not go. Therefore, it was a question of whether Jesus would attend passover in Jerusalem or remain hidden from the eyes of the chief priest and Pharisees.

Daniel 8:24-27 The king of fierce countenance (represented by the little horn) will destroy successfully, practice deceit, persecute the holy people, and magnify himself in his heart. This prophecy embodies two personages - one that with his rise will ignite the freedom of the holy people, and one that will exalt himself above every other nation...and God. And yet, when he stands up against the Prince of princes, his reign of power and terror will end.
