Why Your Work Matters To God

1 Thessalonians 4:1 - As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.
1 Thessalonians 4:2 - For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 4:3 - It is God’s will that you should be sanctified.

1 Thessalonians 4:9 - Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.
1 Thessalonians 4:10 - And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more.
1 Thessalonians 4:11 - And to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you.

Your work isn't about promotion. It's about people.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 - Work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 - …work with your hands, just as we told you.

Your work isn't about the paycheck. It's about worship.

Genesis 2:15 - The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

Numbers 3:7-8 - They are to perform duties for him and for the whole community at the tent of meeting by doing the work of the tabernacle. They are to take care of all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, fulfilling the obligations of the Israelites by doing the work of the tabernacle.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 - Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands

Your work isn’t about picking it apart. It's about picking it up.

Genesis 1:27-28 - So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

John 10:27 - My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

1 Samuel 3:1 - The boy Samuel ministered before the LORD under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions.
1 Samuel 3:2-3 - One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the LORD, where the ark of God was.
1 Samuel 3:4-6 - Then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel answered, 'Here I am.' And he ran to Eli and said, 'Here I am; you called me.' But Eli said, 'I did not call you; go back and lie down.' So he went and lay down. Again the LORD called, 'Samuel!' And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am; you called me.' 'My son,' Eli said, 'I did not call; go back and lie down.'
1 Samuel 3:7 - Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
1 Samuel 3:8 - A third time the LORD called, 'Samuel!' And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am; you called me.' Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy.

Trust that He wants to speak to you.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is alive and active.

1 Samuel 3:9 - So Eli told Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, "Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening."' So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
1 Samuel 3:10 - The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Then Samuel said, 'Speak, for your servant is listening.'

Keep going back to encounter Him.

1 Samuel 3:21 - The LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.

1 Samuel 3:11-14 - And the LORD said to Samuel: 'See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle. At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family, from beginning to end. For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God, and he failed to restrain them. Therefore I swore to the house of Eli, "The guilt of Eli's house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering."
1 Samuel 3:15-18 - Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the LORD. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision, but Eli called him and said, 'Samuel, my son.' Samuel answered, 'Here I am.' 'What was it he said to you?' Eli asked. 'Do not hide it from me. May God deal with you, be it ever so severely, if you hide from me anything he told you.' So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Then Eli said, 'He is the LORD; let him do what is good in his eyes.'

Follow what He says.

1 Samuel 3:19-20 - The LORD was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of his words fall to the ground. And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the LORD.

What’s really stopping you from resting? It might not be your schedule—it’s a trust issue. When we refuse to rest, we’re saying we don’t trust God with our time. But here’s the truth: anything you can’t release has control over you. Don’t let your schedule become your master.
