This week we walked through Hebrews 3 and asked a simple but weighty question: who are you fixing your eyes on?
The original readers of Hebrews were tempted to drift back toward Moses — the Law, the rituals, the familiar religious system. And honestly? We do the same thing. Our version of "Moses" might be a personal moral code, a track record of good deeds, or the quiet belief that we're basically a good person and God will overlook the rest.
But here's what the writer of Hebrews makes clear: Moses was a faithful servant inside the house. Jesus is the Son who built the house. The glory of the builder is always greater than the glory of the structure.
Being a good person will not save us. None of us are perfect. The Law — whether written on stone tablets or on our conscience — only shows us how far short we fall. What we need isn't more effort. We need mercy. And mercy is exactly what Jesus secured on the cross.
As Tim Keller put it, our hearts default to self-justification unless we deliberately reset them to gospel-mode — again and again.
So consider Jesus. Rest under grace. The house is secure because the Builder is alive.
If this resonated with you, share it with someone who needs the reminder this week. đź’¬
X Moses was faithful in the house. Jesus is faithful over the house — as the Son who built it.
Your performance doesn't hold the structure together. His finished work does.
"Consider Jesus." — Hebrews 3:1
