Mayflower held its first confirmation class this week, and the room told its own story. Before class began, all ages and stages sat at the same tables in the fellowship hall, sharing pizza and stories, before moving into the parlor for the first of several sessions. Confirmation at Mayflower has never been just for teenagers, and this class proved it.

Rev. Sheridan Irick and Director of Faith Formation Joanna Goodwin led the group through the Rooted in Faith curriculum, working through who God, Jesus, and the Spirit are, how to read the Bible, the history of the church and the United Church of Christ, the sacraments, and worship. One of the first exercises had everyone writing, in their own words, who God is to them. The page filled up fast: peaceful, kind, infinite light, loving, a mother, a father, family member, safety, brave, strong, creative, "goes toward danger." What a strikingly full picture of God.

Have you ever read a Bible passage and wondered what it meant? Mayflower's Bible Pilgrims class wonders about those verses with you.

This class selects passages of particular interest, reads several translations of them, and invites participants to wrestle honestly with the text, asking questions, making connections, and exploring the historical context behind the words. Led by Phil Douglas, a retired Unitarian minister, the class treats scripture as something to wonder about and explore together.

Bible Pilgrims meets Sundays at 9:15am in Classroom 6 of the Christian Education Wing and online via Zoom. For the Zoom link or any questions, reach out to Joanna Goodwin, Director of Faith Formation, at: [email protected].

Sunday was a joyful day at Mayflower Congregational UCC Church. Seventeen new members joined the Mayflower family during Morning Worship, and the congregation celebrated afterward with a church-wide potluck. The Deacons hosted, providing fried chicken and hot dogs for the kids.

At a time when churches across the country are closing by the thousands each year, Mayflower continues to grow, and the congregation could not be more grateful.

If you are looking for a church that is alive, welcoming, and rooted in this community, there is a seat waiting for you. Mayflower gathers every Sunday for Morning Prayer at 8:30am, Sunday School for all ages in between, and Morning Worship at 10:15am. Visitors are always welcome, and there is no need to know what to do ahead of time.

Some questions do not have easy answers, and Mayflower’s Seekers Sunday School Class is not interested in pretending otherwise.

This class discusses life's big questions together drawing from blogs, webinars, books, and current events. The class discussion is internally led by the participants which brings a wide range of thoughts, questions, and experiences.

Seekers also puts Sunday's conversations into action, initiating projects and supporting ongoing efforts in the community such as VOICE. Talking takes the abstract and creates something concrete.

Seekers meets during Mayflower's Christian Education hour, beginning at 9:15 a.m., in the Seekers Room in the northeast corner of Milligan Hall, or online via Zoom. For the Zoom link or any questions, reach out to [email protected]

It is hard to think of a public figure who combined talent, generosity, and plain goodness quite like Dolly Parton. She wrote songs that told the truth about hard lives and hopeful hearts. She took care of people, neighbors, strangers, and children she would never meet, sending books to kids around the world through her Imagination Library simply because she believed every child deserved one.

A few years ago, Rev. Dr. Lori Walke preached a sermon series called "The Gospel According to Dolly Parton," taking a closer look at her songs and her life, and what both have to teach us about faith, dignity, and love. You can find the full series archived on Mayflower's YouTube channel: https://buff.ly/o70nal2

Learning to live alone after decades of marriage can be hard on the best of days. On the worst days, it helps to have a group that gives you room to cry, be angry, laugh, and lean into feelings that catch you by surprise. That is what Mayflower's Widows Support Group offers: a safe space to talk through what the road ahead looks like, with people who understand because they are walking it too.

The group meets in the church parlor after Morning Worship on the second Sunday of each month. On the fourth Sunday, they gather for dinner and other outings together. Recently, that meant a trip to Guthrie to see "Greater Tuna" at the Pollard Theatre.

Summer break is over, and three of Mayflower's small groups are back on the calendar. Whether you have been part of Mayflower for years or you are just curious about what community here looks like, we invite you to take a closer look.

Martha Circle kicks things off first, gathering with a potluck dinner and women’s fellowship on Tuesday, Sep. 1st, at 6:30pm. Bring a dish to share if you are able, but do not let that stop you from coming if you cannot.

WEBS (Wednesday Evening Book Study) starts their new book, "My Own Words" by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, on Wednesday, Sep. 2nd, at 5:30pm. You do not need to have finished the book, or even started it, to join the conversation.

Plymouth Guild opens its 2026-27 season on Tuesday, Sep. 8th, at 10:30am, with a program followed by lunch at a nearby restaurant.

New to any of these? Just show up. No sign-up required, and no one will ask you to explain yourself. If you have questions about location or what to expect, contact the church office, and we will point you in the right direction.

Sometimes having hope exists in tension. We may find ourselves awaiting a diagnosis, or a decision, or trying to discern our next faithful step. Life is hard. Things happen. Hope may ebb and flow, and we question what to do next.

Mayflower's Sunday School class, Building Hope, creates space for that question. It is a place to wonder aloud, wrestle with the unknowns, share experiences, be honest with one another about doubts, be with people asking the same questions, and navigate life together.

Whether you are looking for meaningful conversation, connection, or community, Mayflower's Sunday School classes meet at 9:15am and are open to all.
