Barb Voshell, Regent of Court St. Rita #321 Oelwein presented a check to Parent Share & Support Director Kimberly Puls and Family Service Coordinator Kaitlyn Engstrom to assist families victimized by domestic abuse. The Iowa Catholic Daughters of the Americas courts hold fundraisers during April to help fight domestic abuse. Half of the funds go to the State CDA to be distributed to the archdioceses; the other half is given by the local court to an organization more closely associated with their community in this fight against domestic abuse.

The Archdiocese of Dubuque's Journey in Faith initiative is pleased to announce the interim Mass schedule for the Oelwein Area Pastorate, effective July 15, 2026 – January 15, 2027, a significant milestone in our collective spiritual journey, guided by faith. The schedule includes Sacred Heart Masses at 8 am on Sundays and Noon on Fridays. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this transitional period. This carefully crafted schedule aims to nurture the parishes as they unite as a single pastorate, promoting unity and a shared purpose. As we proceed, we draw strength from our core values, echoing the Archbishop's call for patience, understanding, and flexibility. Attendance will continue to be recorded weekly, leading up to the final announcement in January.

The Michels family crowned the Blessed Virgin Mary’s statue in the Prayer Garden outside Sacred Heart Church. CDA member Nickey Michels designed the floral crown that her granddaughter Maddie Michels placed on Mary’s head after she led the congregation in praying the Hail Mary. The song “Immaculate Mary” was sung by Veronica Stewart, Karen Rochford and Gary Rubner. Father Atwood closed the ceremony with a blessing.

There were many parishioners that went to the crowning and 150th Committee served donuts after.

Have you ever had an Advent calendar where you celebrate the Christmas season by opening a door on a calendar for a treat or scripture verse each day until Christmas? This is our take on that! Year after year we continue to be blown away by the support from our Sacred Heart Parish of Oelwein family and community members. So here’s the list again! Gather these items from your favorite grocery store (hint: our local stores have most of these on sale right now!!) and place the items in a box, and bring your box to Sacred Heart BEFORE NOON on Saturday, December 13th! Volunteers will sort the boxes and distribute to families on the Giving Tree list.

Vice Regent Diana Stewart made the Pilgrimage to the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend, IA, with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas - Court #1768 Cedar Rapids on October 11.

All the statues were sculpted in Italy. These 2 have very special features. The first is Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Both statues were carved individually, but with such precision that when they were put together, Mary’s hand fits in Jesus’s hand perfectly.

The second set of statues is of Joseph holding the young child Jesus. Usually statues are made with the people looking straight ahead. What makes this set so unique is that they are looking at each other. How precious!
