Today, we are introducing someone who plays an important part in our church. He chose to follow Christ as a young adult. God moved him through several ministries and opportunities from serving in the military, ministering as a missionary in Thailand, and now leading as our pastor — Pastor John Lacombe.
Pastor Lacombe grew up in the Detroit metro area of Michigan and was a nominal Catholic, though his family did not regularly attend church. Many considered him a good kid, yet he later realized he was still a sinner in need of salvation. At nineteen he moved to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and it was there that he first heard the gospel clearly. Though it did not immediately change him, it caused him to think seriously about his sin. Over the next several months, he attended church and worked alongside two believers whose genuine walk with God left a lasting impression.
Still confused about salvation, he convinced himself that calling himself a Christian and trying to live a good life was enough. However, in July 1995, a coworker lovingly challenged him. During that conversation, he understood the gospel, repented, and placed his faith solely in Jesus Christ and His work. This one decision changed his life forever. After his salvation, he began growing in his local church. Soon after, he married Connie, and they began their family, welcoming their first child. He later joined the U.S. Army, and after serving in Korea, they moved to Ft. Meade in 1998, where God led them to OBC.
At OBC, he had the opportunity to receive instruction and to serve in teaching, outreach, and youth ministry. In 1999, he surrendered to preach, and in 2000, he and Connie surrendered to missions. After leaving the Army, he became the Assistant Pastor in 2003. In 2006, they left for Thailand where they were able to spend eleven years planting churches. Then in 2017, God led them back to help OBC, and in 2018 he was called as the Senior Pastor.
This photo, though not extremely flattering, captures what we see each week — Pastor Lacombe faithfully preaching God’s Word. His preaching is genuine, doctrinal, and relatable. We are grateful for a pastor committed to faithfully proclaiming Scripture.
If you’re looking for a church home, we invite you to join us this Sunday at Odenton Baptist Church. Come see a place where you can grow, serve, and belong.
