First American Lutheran Church's Fun Fact Friday

In 1947, an improvement fund was started to finance a new heating system for the church, a record chime amplifier with a speaker for the steeple, and other improvements in the church basement area, parish hall, and parsonage.

First American Lutheran Church's Fun Fact Friday

During Rev. Ralph Huget's time here in 1945, the Choir was reorganized, and they sang every Sunday except for two months during the summer. Later, the congregation enjoyed Easter and Christmas cantatas.

In 1948, a Junior Choir was organized. Only one little boy showed up for the first practice, but nineteen children came to the second. On Christmas evening, wearing new white surplices that were turned out on sewing machines by some of their mothers, the Junior Choir sang for the first time. For ten years, the group continued to sing at worship services and for nursing home patients.

First American Lutheran Church's Fun Fact Friday

In May 1945, Rev. Conrath received and accepted the call to a parish in Washington. Rev. Frank Zaiser of Marinette served as interim pastor while several calls were extended and returned. In December 1945, Rev. Ralph Huget accepted the call at First American Lutheran and was installed as the new pastor.
Rev. Huget worked tirelessly to grow the Sunday School Program, and within a few years, he doubled its membership to 145 children. Mrs. Huget worked with the Women's Groups, and their daughters taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and were involved in the Luther League.

First American Lutheran Church's Fun Fact Friday

Our congregation has always regarded Christ's great commission to "Feed My Lambs" as one of the most important assignments and greatest privileges. Projects included making bandages for India, mounting pictures and collecting numbers for missionaries, collecting stamps, making Christmas toys for boys and girls, reading mail from Mexico, and many more.

"Feed My Lambs" continues today with the Souper Bowl of Caring (collecting soup and monetary donations for our Local Food Pantry, Bread by the Bay), sewing quilts and assembling school kits for Lutheran World Relief, and collecting monetary donations for Lutheran World Hunger, Lutheran Social Services, Crossways Camping Ministries (Camp Support), and Crossways Camping Ministries Scholarships (funds to help send FALC youths to summer and confirmation camps); just to name a few.

O Risen Christ, today we remember with fondness Marvin Ziesmer, who was called to his eternal home on August 10, at the age of 82.
Eternal rest grant him, O Lord, and perpetual light shine upon him.

First American Lutheran Church's Fun Fact Friday

In October 1941, at a quarterly meeting, Rev. Edward Reiff asked for a peaceful dismissal because he accepted a call in Middleton, WI.

A call was extended to Rev. Herman Conrath in 1941, and he accepted. Rev. Conrath served during the turbulent years of World War II. Much was done under his guidance to aid the servicemen and women serving their country. He was also a source of strength and comfort to families who lost a child in conflict.

During World War II, when many members were called into the service, the Luther League provided the link between them and home by publishing a monthly newsletter called "The TIE". It was sent to the service members to keep them informed about church activities.

First American Lutheran Church's Fun Fact Friday

In the 1940's, separate Lutheran groups purchased three camps of Crossways Camping Ministries. Crossways is still around today, and we do our best as a congregation to support them by including special envelopes with our offering envelope packets.

During Holy Week, a special envelope is included to help raise funds that are sent directly to Crossways, which they can use wherever they need them (staff wages, food, maintenance, bills, etc.).

On Mother's Day and Father's Day, a special envelope is included for Camp Scholarships. These funds help cover the cost of FALC youth attending Summer Camp and Confirmation Bible Camp at Crossway's Imago Dei Camp.
