A song that would have only been heard by a hundred or so people was instead performed to an over-flow capacity crowd in a church with 3500 people watching it live on three continents. Many more thousands have viewed it since. The music begins at 1:09:57 with comments from church and community organizers, students and the composer preceding the performance.
Even if a person does not know anything about music, one cannot help but feel the tension of the score as the pressure builds against opposing forces. A five-minute song has garnered national attention to the ongoing issue of striving for equal rights for all people that is far from completion.
When someone asks, "What can my church do?" showing up in your community for others is among the work we can all be doing.

A school board intended to silence their high school band by censoring the performance of an instrumental musical piece at the annual spring concert. Now the music will be performed by the same students on DONATED musical instruments, directed by the COMPOSER and hosted in a local progressive CHURCH. What would have been an unknown local event has gone national! The concert is at 7:30pm this evening, Wednesday, May 20th. Applause to all the people standing up to blatant bigotry and thank you Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church for celebrating all people!

We offer our deepest condolences to the Riggs family. If you didn't laugh while in Pat's presence you weren't listening! Pat kept us in stitches, kept the Praise Team on beat, and made the world a better place. We love him and will miss him until we are together again.

View Patrick D. Riggs's obituary, contribute to their memorial, see their funeral service details, and more.
