Dr. Shelton Murphy was born in Smithfield, N. to the late Sam & Louise Murphy. Dr. Murphy married Doris Annette James. They have been married for 32 years. From this union God blessed them with a son, Shelton Josiah Murphy, a graduate from Howard University, Washington, D. Dr. Murphy attended N. State University, Raleigh, N. where he received his B. Degree in Communications. His Masters of Divinit

y was received in December of 1986 and the Doctorate of Ministry in December of 1990, both from Southeastern Bapt. Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, N. He just recently completed a M.S. in Church Management from Villanova University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Murphy a former Campus Pastor, State & Federal Prison Chaplain, Hospital Chaplain, Rehabilitation Counselor & Navy Chaplain, now serves as the celebrated Pastor of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk, Va. It's only been thirteen (13) years, but Mount Gilead has taken off and is growing in quality & quantity. To God be the GLORY!!! Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11th, 2001, and to hold in our hearts the familles and friends who continue to carry that loss.

We are deeply grateful for the courage and sacrifice of the firefighters🚒, law enforcement officers🚓, and first responders🚑 who ran toward danger that day, and for all who have served since. Their bravery reminds us of the strength and unity that define us.
