Last night, our community came together for the 2026 Jewish Peninsula Annual Meeting. It was an evening filled with good food, meaningful recognition and the kind of connection that makes our community so special.

We celebrated the installation of our new board members, honored Jonathan Rathsam with the Barbara Rosenbaum Young Leadership Award, recognized Aliyah Stupar and David Spigel as this year's Beskin Scholarship Award recipients and the Pearl Society presented checks to their two local grantees for this year: Jewish Family Services and The Chance to Dance Program.

It was a wonderful night of reflection, gratitude and excitement for the year ahead.

In honor of American Jewish Heritage Month, Newport News City employees are exploring the city’s Jewish heritage today — from the first settlers in 1885 to their lasting contributions in business, civic leadership, and social justice that continue to shape our community.

Today we pause to honor the men and women who gave everything in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedoms we hold dear and we are forever grateful.
