On Wednesday, we talked about the greatest love of all- agape love. This love is the love that God has for us. It is unconditional, continuous, and for us all. This is a love that we get, no matter what.

This love is shown to us through the death and sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. We know now that it would not last and he would overcome the grave, but in that symbolic and very real death of our Lord, we are forgiven of our sins. We are made whole through His grace.

It is our goal, and our purpose, to attempt to achieve this love in our daily lives towards others (everyone) and ultimately towards God. We need to take up our cross, walk in God's teachings and footsteps. We need to be his LOVE in the world.

Take time today to listen and look for God. See what he is asking us to do to show His love to the world.

It saddens me to share the below post from Mrs. Susie. As y'all know, Campbell was one of the most amazing and sweetest people to ever walk this earth. God blessed us by letting us know her and getting to see her light and joy. As I know more information, I will post it here. Please reach out if you need someone to talk to or to pray with. God is with us through this time of grief. May we find comfort in Him and each other. Picture is also Mrs. Susie's.

"Our sweet, beautiful Campbell passed away last night. She will be missed for her smile, wit, big heart, love for creating art, her kindness, and so very much more. We are heartbroken and yet thankful she is at peace. We are thankful she had a blast at Great Wolf Lodge this week and that we had that time together as a family. She will live on in our hearts and will never be forgotten."

Good morning from Camp!! Today is Day 1 and we are studying Ephesians 3:20 and discussing how BIG our God is. The youth this morning found their own space to sit and do their devotionals after a group prayer. This is just the beginning of what will surely be an AMAZING day!

Countless times throughout the bible people are commended, not for their actions, eloquent words, stature in society or how much land or money they had – they were commended for their faith in God. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not yet seen.” As LeeAnna, baby A and I start our new journey we are stepping out in faith, following Jesus. That’s what He requires of each of us – you, me – everyone. We believers must stand “together as one for the faith of the gospel” (Philippians 1:27). Having and practicing faith is a family affair. We are together in this thing called life and there will be difficult, sad moments but through it all we must continue to practice our faith. Faith not stretched, stressed or strained isn’t much of an active faith at all. Our faith is going to take us to places we are not prepared for, not equipped for so that we may walk by faith, not by sight. To be solely dependent on Jesus.

Stepping out in faith requires of you to be ok with wondering in the desert, being led into the wilderness of life and not knowing all the answers. Are you ok with that mystery, the wilderness, the unknown? They say “knowledge is power,” but that can’t be fully true in my opinion, it’s what you do with that knowledge that matters most. And what is knowledge if not the discernment of our curiosity? Many have accumulated much knowledge and yet know nothing, because they lack the discernment as to what and when to apply that knowledge. Living by faith dances along without all the answers to a place beyond certainty. It’s in those places, I dare say, we will find Jesus waiting for us.

In this transition of the FBCNN Youth ministry – questions will arise, doubts will surface – but step into the unknown with the certainty that Jesus is with you. Seek His face in every aspect of your lives, because He is there. Be curious as to what God is up to in every circumstance and in every situation. Faith is a gift – open it – use it! Let God guide your every step as you move along in your journey. Hear the music of the future and dance away!

When one journey ends, another begins. As many of you have heard by now - LeeAnna, baby A and I are beginning a new journey with Jesus. God has given us a new assignment and over these last few days I have been pondering what these last devotions will be about. I am profoundly struck by the words of Jesus in John 14 when He says, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Reflecting on these past seven years of ministry one quickly realizes it was never about me, LeeAnna, Queen D, Jack, Randy or anyone…it’s always always always about Jesus. His way. His truth. His life.

At the end of any journey where you lead people, one contemplates the legacy left behind and as a pastor of the gospel, what I desire more than anything is for you to know Jesus and grow deeper in love with Him. We sure have had a blast! We will always remember the underground church shenanigans, the epic praise songs, the many late nights at Crossroads, and all the countless BARFs – each one of those had a purpose. To lead you closer to Jesus and each other by building His Kingdom. We played ScatterBall not to fill time, but to experience a divine joy together. You had small group leaders that prayed for you daily because you have a real relationship with them. You have learned from and leaned on each other in the best and worst times, and that is what forms a lasting relationship! My hope and prayer is that what is remembered was the Holy Spirit alive within our relationships and ministry, that Jesus was glorified and we all grew closer to Him together.

The way Jesus calls us to live is His way – it is not always easy but it most assuredly is worth it. As the Church, we must follow Jesus and no one else. No one church or ministry is about one pastor or leader…it’s always about Jesus. That’s the truth. If we want real, true life - Jesus is the way. The most common form of graffiti is “___ was here.” In that blank is usually someone’s name. I don’t want to write “Michael was here,” metaphorically or physically. I want to write “Jesus IS here.” That’s the legacy I hope to have left with you all. Our actions and words help write our legacy and from the bottom of my heart, I hope to have served you well, leading you to Jesus and only Jesus.

There’s something reassuring about having your battery restored on your phone…like when my phone reads 100% there is something about it that makes me feel restored, ready to go. Last week we talked about our batteries being reverted to low power mode because we have been drained and are headed for empty. Our spiritual lives get this way when we are detached from the Vine (Jesus) for too long. In John 15 Jesus says He is the true vine, and when we (the branches) remain in Him we will produce much fruit. When we obey His commands, we remain in His love, producing fruit (blessings, gifts, relationships, love, joy, peace, patience, etc.) for the whole community to experience. Jesus gave them this instruction so that they may be filled with joy, and the joy will overflow (John 15.11).

What makes a tree healthy and stable is that it is cared for, pruned, watered and nurtured regularly. In its season the tree bears fruit because it has been tended to by the gardener. In Jesus’ metaphor, He is the vine to which the branches are connected. We are the branches that produce the fruit because we remain on the vine and God is the gardener. He tends to our needs. He makes sure we get all the sun we need, waters us, prunes parts of us that hinders our fruitfulness and is with us even in the cold, harsh winters. God is always preparing fruit even in the hard seasons.

During this season of change in our life, LeeAnna and myself (and the baby!) are staying connected to Jesus, remaining in Him as He calls us into a new harvest so we may continue to build His Kingdom. Even in seasons of change, where questions add up, we know that joy is still possible. So cling to Jesus, the vine, and know that God, the gardener, is always with you through each and every season making our joy complete, our batteries full.

LOW POWER MODE

Read John 15.5

Has your phone ever gotten to the point where it tells you “low battery”? Of course it has, because we are constantly on our phones! When you get that feeling, panic mode sets in – must…find…charger! On my phone when it gets to 20% I have the option to “lower power mode.” Turning that on turns off background app refresh, auto-lock is set to 30 seconds, e-mail fetch is haulted and iCloud pauses. It helps but doesn’t bring back any battery life – it prolongs battery life and strips the phone of crucial functions.

In life, our spiritual batteries deplete regularly when we don’t spend time with God, and I’m not sure a quick worship song or Sunday sermon will get us back to 100% battery life. The source of life is Jesus, the vine, and what good is a branch if it disconnects from the vine? It can carry fruit for a little while, but after a time the fruit dies and the branch becomes obsolete.

Who among us feels drained, empty, on “low power mode”? We get that way spiritually because we disconnect from the vine, our Jesus. When we are connected to God on a continuous basis we are fruitful and the whole community benefits from the fruit we produce.

Have you noticed when your battery hits 10% it turns from green to red? Low power mode turns to yellow. Green is good. Healthy. Good to go. Yellow means slow down cause things are about to stop, change. And then that dreaded 10% red flashes – stop! What if we don’t let ourselves get to 10%? What if we don’t have to revert to “low power mode”? John 15:5 says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” A dead phone, like a dead branch produces nothing, helps no one, connects to no one, is detached. May we remain with Jesus so we may produce good fruit for the benefit of the vineyard, the garden, the village, the community, the world.
