Abraham’s servant requested only a drink for himself. Rebekah answered that request and then volunteered for the far greater task of drawing enough water for every camel.

Genesis 24:19 reveals generosity through ordinary physical effort. Rebekah did not merely express kindness. She repeatedly returned to the well until the need was met.

Biblical love does not always calculate the smallest acceptable contribution. Sometimes it notices what else is needed and willingly continues serving.

Come worship with us at 10:00 am with worship music beginning at 9:45 am!

This Sunday , among many others, we will be learning a new song(hymn) that is one of our pastor Ronnie’s favorite hymns. I believe it is a great reminder and vision statement of the church , the ekklesia, and of our church body here at Highland - “ All are welcome - all are welcome in this place!” We will begin learning it this Sunday as well as several Sundays to follow!

Scripture
Romans 12:9-21 NRSV

Title
"Beyond us"

Sermon Theme

This passage in Romans is showing us an example of a church that is a blended and unlikely family. Blended in culture and previous beliefs and thoughts about God.

The church (ekklesia), we know, is this church that is called out and set apart for a distinct mission and participation in God's story. So, Romans 12:9-21 lends answers to some further questions .... What is distinctive about this community we call church? What is the character and narrative of this story? What are the norms that guide and the practices that sustain this community?

However, we "achieve" this type of living by recognizing it comes from beyond ourselves. We do not muster up the fruits of the spirit, nor do they come from our own power, but they are given to us by the Holy Spirit. Our actions reflect a gratitude to the work that God is doing and an affirmation of who God has shown Himself to be. Not only that, but these actions, norms, and practices that are distinct to our community are not just for our community, but they go beyond us and beyond our walls. Our participation in this counter-cultural way of living will be a light in the world that points to the presence of God. It is certainly important for the world to see our inward love and care for one another and also beyond us, outwards.

Blessed SONday! ❤️‍🔥

There is something beautiful about coming into God's house with a hungry heart.

Not hungry for a better performance or for another religious routine. Not merely for a good sermon or a beautiful song.

But hungry for God...

Because we can be surrounded by worship and still have a distracted heart. We can hear the Word and remain unchanged. We can lift our hands while our hearts are somewhere else.

But today, come differently.

Come hungry, expecting.
Come with a heart that says, "Lord, I don't just want to hear about You. I want to encounter You.”

Leave your distractions at the door, your disappointments at His feet, the heaviness you've carried all week in His presence.

You don't have to pretend that everything is okay...Come as you are.

If you're weary, or broken... come.

If you're confused or failed this week, come...

If your fire has grown dim, come. If you've been longing for God but don't know how to return, come...

Jesus is still calling and His presence is still available.

His Word is still alive, His mercy is still new and His grace is still sufficient.

Maybe this Sunday is not about God giving you everything you asked for. Maybe it's about God reminding you that He is everything your soul needs.

Don't merely attend church today.

Encounter the Lord. Don't just sing the song, truly worship Him...

Don't just hear the sermon, Receive His Word.

Don't just leave encouraged...Leave transformed.

May we never become so familiar with church that we become unfamiliar with the presence of God.

May we never become so accustomed to worship that we forget Who we are worshiping.

May our hearts burn again, may our hunger return, may our ears become attentive, our knees become willing.
..May our hearts cry again: "Lord, I want more of You.”

Scripture Reading

Matthew 16:13-22

Sermon

Title: Who do YOU say that I am?

Theme: In only Matthew’s Account of what we know as “Peter’s Confession”, we get the first mention of church and a further foundational statement of who Jesus is. In the world around us, we will face things that distort who Jesus is to us. The question, “Who do you say that I am?” is important to remember in times where the world is loud and clouds our vision from seeing the full Jesus. Our relationship with Jesus is a personal question we must answer for ourselves.

Following in verses 20-23, Jesus clarifies the kind of Messiah he is going to be. The disciples no longer can imagine or comprehend that is what their God is going to do. The church (ekklesia) is the community of God’s people who see Jesus for who He has revealed Himself to be (church DEFINED). The church’s
foundation is this Messiah, who above all things has promised to love us and has displayed this love through the foreshadowing of his crucifixion… Who do YOU say that Jesus is? Over your life, your circumstances, your doubt, how other people tell you to believe? Who is Jesus to you? What is this community of church (ekklesia) to you?
