Mission trips come in all shapes and sizes, but the question is always, what is the goal and did we achieve it? This summer our church dedicated a team of 29 willing souls to travel to 4 small churches and partner in ministry. Over the course of 10 days though the real story wasn’t the work. Yes we remodeled, stained, laid carpet, cut wood, replaced siding and much more. But the real story lies in Acts Chapter 2
The church lived out the ministry in some great ways. We talked to people from all around the world and got the chance to show Jesus through our story. We made new friends and renewed friendships with others. We ate together, studied scripture together, shared life stories, parts of testimony and then sent each other out to work. The church, helping the church, and building the church through conversation and relationship. A busy week filled with experiences from work to worship to ministry, with a little bit of sightseeing along the way. From excited to arrive to tired and ready to go home, a week filled with God’s grace and faithful guidance was successful in many ways.
The big story - we really got to know each other. And we got to see God at work in the little things and the big. Perhaps the biggest story was watching our team grow deeper in faith, sharing stories of Gods grace, and living out the call to be the church.
So at the finish line of a working week, work was done, but faith stories were built that will last a lifetime. And that is really the goal - our story of faith is stronger, deeper and more filled with God’s story woven throughout it.
